Plant Parade: A Forum Project.

This month, something a little easier - or maybe not!

The challenge is to make a piece of art using a different medium from the one you'd normally choose.

There - simple eh?

It may be a good idea, upon revealing your work, if you also say which medium you would have worked with normally and why you have chosen the one used this month. .... (hate it usually, always wanted to try it, new to me, find it difficult ... etc. etc.)

I've provided a couple or three references but if you would like to work from life, please do so ... the choice of ref then will be up to you and you can again include a photo of your living model if you wish

Reveal date is 25th of March.

Clematis tayara82

Clematis Brian Barnes

Clematis - Jackmanii Mountainmanslady

Have fun!

Maureen, I think this is an opportunity to dust off the pastels. I keep seeing other people do wonderful things with them and I just can't get them to love me! I accept your challenge!!

Great images, by the way. I'm not familiar with the clematis and it's gorgeous!! I think I'll do one of those.

Pastels, Beth? You are brave! I will dust off something but it sure won't be my evil pastels! Maybe I'll dust off more than one thing since I've been so acrylics-obsessed of recent months.

Thank you Jeanette! You can tell I was a bit hassled and frazzled?

I'm thinking OPs for me - I hate them and don't have many ..... they're definitely a challenge for me!

Like Beth, I may try the pastels. I could even try oils if I still have that little set hiding in my supplies.
Thanks Maureen! Now I have to dig through my stuff to find a medium that I don't use!!!

Re: Plant Parade: March '08

I'm glad some of you are dusing off your op's too! Whenever I open the top of the box on my Sennileirs, they laugh out loud at me! They are evil little critters! If I keep a little thinner nearby to keep them somewhat drunk, they are a little kinder to me. I learned that the last time I had them out!

I also think I need to go a little bigger. I have some brand new Art Spectrum Colourfix. I may just use a whole sheet! Wheeeeee!

I have more colors in my cheapie set, so I use both..... on the rare occasion that I actually use them.

Lovely references Maureen. I particularly like the light in the third one. Maybe I'll try that in water colour but then again, like you I have some oil pastel lurking somewhere mmmmmmmmm

I don't even OWN any pastels! I'm going to try in acrylic, since I struggle the most in that medium (I'm more comfortable with watercolor and pointillism). I got the sketch done last night, so I hope I don't drag my feet the rest of the month!

Me, too, think will try pastels (not used in many years) on petunias that are now out for sale or something else.

Maureen-

LIKE this challenge!

Think I'll go with the "new to me / always wanted to try it" category...there's enough there for sure..!!

Then the only "hard" thing will be deciding which "experiment" to post...

Cheers!

WildGoose/Chris

Re: Plant Parade: March '08

Maureen, good ideas here for this month. Using a different medium requires also use of a support not usually used. That can be a challenge all its own. I found a paper tablet sold for use with charcoal, colored pencils, pastels, etc. in the studio closet. No telling when or if I ever used it, but am playing with it now along with Caran D'Ache watersoluble crayons. What fun!
