japanese calligraphy

Hello all,

Recently I get more and more interested in japanese calligraphy. Since there is no workshop given in town, I wanted to ask the community for pointers where to start.

Are there people here doing japanese calligraphy ? Can I start it from a book ? What books are recommended ? And many more questions...

Jan

Re: japanese calligraphy

Hi Jan, I was just in Michael's yesterday and saw a book on Japanese calligraphy with a lot of good photos. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you the title or author. Try doing a search on "japanese calligraphy" on Amazon.

Good luck,

-- Linda

Re: japanese calligraphy

We haven't had anyone volunteer yet to break down Chinese or Japanese calligraphy for us westerners but we are doing Asian/Chinese brush painting in the Watermedia forum. Links in my signature.

Re: japanese calligraphy

I just got a book called "Brush Writing: Calligraphy Techniques for Beginners" by Ryokushu Kuiseko. I can't wait to get started learning the strokes. The book has some really clear instructions for how to do each stroke and in what order to do them.
