Thumbs up Beer Bottle Beach

This is my first attempt at posting a painting. I'm sorry it' s not the one I wanted to post but the upload tool said it was too big. I live in Newfoundland so it had to have a bit of our landscape in it, otherwise it's totally from my imagination. I know what's wrong with it but I overworked it enough as it was so it sits like this now. It's oil on a standard sized stretched canvas, 14 X 16 ?? I will try to take another shot of the original painting I wanted to put here, it' s much better.

Hi Spencersdock and welcome to the Marine Art Forum.
Your wave and beer bottle look good.... .... although it looks like the bottle might get washed away with those waves!
I hope you are able to show us the painting that you originally had intended to show.
If you have any problems let us know and someone will be able to help you.

Hey there spencersdock and welcome from me too..

Do you have a photo editing program? You need to crop your image so only the image is showing, no background like you have up there. (is that the mat?)

Then resize it to 500x600 pixels. If you want to post a larger pic, you need a "double image" READ HERE

Cheers JJ

Re: Beer Bottle Beach

Hi Spence...thank you for posting your painting and welcome to the forum! First of all, I do like the colors you used in the painting. It sets an overall mood for the piece...churning waves and stormy conditions are at hand. The detail on the beach is great! I know you must have spent quite a lot of time working there.

Now, regarding the waves....whenever you use equal size and shape in building wave motion it gives us the impression of a huge buildup of water about to fall on the viewer. I've done that a few times ( ) in my years...people take one look and back up a few steps...or in some cases, clear across the room. I would suggest you find some actual images of the sea to work from until you get the balance of waves as they break against the shore. It's all a learning process and as you grow, you'll be amazed at how much you achieve in a short period of time.

You're doing fine..hang in there and bring us another piece to view....we do love to have new additions to the Marine Art Forum.

With highest regards,
Byron

Re: Beer Bottle Beach

Thank you all sooo much for your comments. I think I might be able to post the original painting I wanted to put here and I guess I have to do that in another thread. I was almost embarrassed to post this painting because I have viewed almost every painting in this forum and knew it wasn't up to caliber. It does have it's spots though and I'm going to include a shot of the beach separated from the rest of the painting, which to me could have been a painting in itself. Far to the right of the painting there is also a cabin with a gaggle of gulls flying which you can see close up but not in the overall painting. My imagination can cover a lot of ground...lol. I have been through your step by step instruction of painting the wave Byron, and I'd say that nobody can paint the crashing waves as good as you. I do live in Newfoundland though so I have plenty of observing opportunity. Again, everybody, thank you for sharing your thoughts and advice with me. I hope to be posting more work on a more regular basis. My other painting is called Triton Shores. Here's the close up on the beach...
