long lines

I've never been west of Virginia, as I was a Navy "brat" stationed up and down the east coast. I've seen many pictures of flat landscapes that seem to go on endlessly, and I received permission from a FLickr friend to paint this one of Galveston. I found this picture to be intriquing for that reason- New England is not flat! Size 12x16, on Fabriano paper- comments and suggestions are most appreciated!

FULL SIZE:

OR CROPPED??

Re: long lines

Holly:
The colors you used are amazing and the perspective is well done. Your painting really draws my eye into it and I am torn between heading for cover (to avoid the apparent oncoming storm) or going a bit farther to see what's just over the horizon. I really like the uncropped one.

Re: long lines

What a cool sky! Love your use of the telephone poles to pull your eye to
the horizon! I guess I'm odd man out as I like the cropped version - it
seems more intimate to me. Either way, you can't lose!

Re: long lines

Thank you Lucia, Helene, Jim, Ron and Emme. It's funny (or not?)..that I painted it mostly because of the large, looming sky but didn't really make huge note of the poles, until they were in. I did purposely lighten the area at the end of the line of poles...trying to show "hope" for nicer weather in the distance!
