Re: best slab roller

I recommend the Atlas 180 Roller. It is a full 6 3/4" wide and works very smoothly. I bought mine from theclaystation.com. I just went to their site and they aRE ALL OUT OF THEM. They sell for $44.95 plus $8.95 shipping.
Polymerclayexpress.com offers the same machine (180) for $58. They also have the Atlas 150 with a MOTOR DRIVE for $142.
Good luck and keep on rollin'.
Nic

Re: best slab roller

I hate to ask but slab roller for what kind of clay...poly, metal, or kiln fired.

so if we want to talk kiln fired clay my classroom has a northstar with 2 rollers, works good but my college had a much more durable one that would take major punishment...a Bailey's slab roller would be my choice if i got the opportunity to choose. It also has a double roller.

The reason to go with a double rolling slab roller is that the bottom and top roller stretch the clay evenly, a single roller slab roller builds stresses in the clay causing the slab to warp a bit while drying unless you flip the clay and make another pass through the rollers when making slabs.

btw, oh mighty WC powers that be ,this is a good example of the need for separate clay subforums. Different tools, different techniques, different advice.

Even though i didnt write kind of clay, your advice was perfect, coz im looking for slab roller for kiln fired clay. And im really thankfull for your words, coz here in europe are one-roller slabrollers in majority, so we had some experience just with one-roller slabroller /not very good/ and we didnt have a chance to try two-rollers one. But we thought, that two roller had to be better because of same reason as you wrote. Slab is inconsistent, coz there are some scratches on reverse of slab and so on.
So thank you very much and whish you nice day.
