Re: Knitting and Crochet. The Technical Stuff
Our Knitting Guild has them here from time to time, but the SE just doesn't have the same stuff that you all have in most other states....we're only now getting what you all probably had years ago!
I'm really glad to hear your pup is doing ok now.

Finally! The stuff is called Sockotta, imported by Plymouth Yarns. Here's a link: http://www.plymouthyarn.com/index.ph...75#pattern-tab Plymouth is doing a crappy job of showing you what this yarn really does -- on their site, it just looks like a standard variegated yarn that make stripes, but it does so much more than that! It works a little pattern into the stripes all by itself -- you just have to see it to believe it. These sites may give you a better idea, but none of them come up to seeing this worked IRL:

Ah, here's one that gives an idea! http://www.patternworks.com/productdetail/466.htm

Re: Knitting and Crochet. The Technical Stuff
Hi I have been knitting and Crocheting since I was a teen. That is way to many years ago I am thrilled to find this thread. I love the links to the suppliers. It is always fun to learn the new ways of doing what you have done for years Hopefully I will be able to help some along the way.

Re: Knitting and Crochet. The Technical Stuff
Thanks I will do that. I have to figure out how to get my pictures set up into a web site to send everyone to first. That is a job for my ex-programer husband I will start bugging him on a regular basis to get that done for me. As I am not all that computer savy

Don't we all? Have you seen the sticky in this forum with links and tips from other members? It's a bit chaotic at this point and we'll tidy it up someday, but it's still a treasure trove for fiber fanatics, so we hope you'll contribute a few of your favorite links to it, too!

Re: Knitting and Crochet. The Technical Stuff
Some of you may already know this site, but I just found it this morning.
It has lots of information on yarns weights and needle size, reading patterns and symbols, and more.

Re: Knitting and Crochet. The Technical Stuff
A yarn crawl would do me in.....I crochet and at times knit (and am learning weaving) but have enough yarn for several lifetimes....but oh gosh that yarn is beautiful and I love it!! I spend way to much money on the FIRST yarn place I go in!
Lion Brand makes sock yarn that self-stripes....
the Ravelry site is very cool....I learned to make a hat from there.
I am nearly finished with a crochet shawl....and have an afghan I need to weave in all the darned ends.
I love Lily Chen...the Lion brand site has one of her fabulous shawls...

Re: Knitting and Crochet. The Technical Stuff
I'm not sure if this is the spot for this but a brief explanation first. In the late 50's early 60's I devised a method of crochet that looked almost identical to Aran knitting, after making clothes for family and friends right through to the 60's when my children came along, I was approached by a friend who insisted that I send some of my work to the Woman magazine who at the time was running a competition named 'All your own work'. I did this and to cut a long story short, they withdrew me from the competition sent me a man's knitted Aran sweater to duplicate in crochet and were so happy that they put my version in their museum and supplied me with enough yarn to knit garments for a big spread. This is not the elongated treble crochet type of cable and once I've sorted it out I'll be putting the 'how to' on my flickr and blog sites. Here is the picture of my daughter Sharon who at 6 years of age first modelled for me for the spread in 1969.
Forgot to mention the rib bands are all crochetted too, Hugs Joyce

Re: Knitting and Crochet. The Technical Stuff
Wow, that's crochet? That's amazing. I would say that yes this is the right place because you are a resource. Sorry I can't knit or crochet or I'd be all over that.

Re: Knitting and Crochet. The Technical Stuff
I consider myself nearly an expert on crochet having done it since I was a small child and designed my own pretty much since then and lady you are amazing - this is wonderful! Not at all surprised that they were as happy as they were. Such an original approach and a look that, especially at that time frame, rarely can be found in crochet. Great model too!
