Plant Parade: a forum Project: Jan. '08

Plant Parade: A forum project. January 2008.

Remember all those floral Dutch paintings from 300/400 years ago?
They put together vases of flowers which (at that time) would not have been in season together!

Now, of course, seasons don't seem to matter!

The idea this month is to take one or more plant references (below) and create your own vase and bouquet - or any other grouping you can make from the refs. ..... maybe the flowers gathered together before you arrange them?

I'm giving you quite a selection of refs this month so you can choose colours or flowers to suit your 'arrangement'.

Your surface, on which you stand your grouping/arrangement, may be fabric or wood, or tile - whichever you can use from home - so you will have some 'real' image to work from!

Your work may be in any medium, and any size - from mini to maxi!

We will have one ‘reveal’ date, 25th of the month - please, no uploading before then, we’d like to see your work uninfluenced by anyone else’s!

The object is to have fun and perhaps create a piece of art you may not have thought of doing before!

This month’s references:

jugby Nitsa

potsby jcook

Floral bouquet by marie d

Glads by madmum

Lily of the Valley by Olika

Lily of the valley 2 by Olika

Lupins by Stalksthe dawn

Lupins, pink by Jakeally

Snadragon by gourdburner

Snapdragon and raindrops by Strawberrywine

Yellow snapdragon by Miss Mouse

Snapdragon by Trimoon

Bouquetby Jocelynsart.

It's a challenge - but enjoy it!

I started painting flowers since joining this group. But so far I only painted single flowers. I wanted to paint a group of flowers in a vas, but haven't got much confidence, it seems more complicated for me. This project will be a great challenge. I will try. Thanks Maureen.
Happy New Year.

I am also just learning how to paint flowers. I'll try it though!

A challenge for me too ladies - especially putting these things together from scratch!

You can do it though - I have faith in your abilities!

A new year, a new project! Sounds like a fun one.

I don't understand the "your surface may be fabric or wood, or tile" part- do you mean the background?

Do we just paint in any style this time, or are we supposed to try to paint like the Dutch masters?

Maureen you come up with such great ideas. This is going to be so much fun! I might try a digital painting. Take a photo of a vase on a surface and add your flower references then digitally paint it. And I think I might actually paint this one in acrylic too. This will be fun. Thanks for putting these projects together

I'm sorry I confused some! I've edited the post (#1) so hope it explains about the 'surface' a bit more!

Just call me confused ........

Re: Plant Parade: a forum Project: Jan. '08

I have never done one of these assignments so I have a question: Are we to ONLY use the reference photos provided? or can we find another ref of the same type of flower/vase?
