I started this out meaning to make it more abstract and just portray the feelings but it didn't work out that way.
the hands still has to be completed.
any comments and tips welcomed.

Retha, I like the colours, composition and concept, my feeling is that the bottom half competes with the top half which is where I feel the attention should be... and that hand is a bit distracting.

This is what I came up of course now its more about the emotion that I wanted it to be...

Exactly! I actually covered the bottom part of the painting to this level and thought it looked good... and you have also taken the focus off the hard edge of his head and kept the most effective part of the painting and made it even more so!
