Loved 'Due South' and the mountie! I don't remember Stan Rogers music from it, but I became a fan of Sarah McLauchlan through that show.

Definetely Sarah Mclaghlin as well and Tara Mclean.
Stan Rogers sings Barrett's Privateers which is the song Fraiser sang in part one of The Robert Mackenzie episode where all the sailors sang along and also Northwest Passage in part two of the series finale and Frasier and the "new" Ray are off to find adventure.
Umm...I'm not obsessed or anything, I just have every episode but one recorded(darn it all I want that one )

Love Stan Rogers! I am also quite fond of canadian celtic music from the East Coast. Rankin Family, Great Big Sea.... ahhhhhh.

Not quite sure where one could go to purchase this music outside of Canada though.

Yes, there are lots of good East Coast musicians that I like, one of my favorites would be Figgy Duff, they are no longer together as a band member died of cancer, but the music lives on......my favorite album by them is 'Weather out the storm' the female vocalist, Pamela Morgan has gone on to do her own cd's and she is fabulous if you like folk music, she also plays the fiddle. I love Sarah and have alot of her stuff, another goodie is Loreena McKennitt, she has many great cd's, one of my fav's is 'the mask and the mirror'..........happy listening Aleks

Now I know who Stan Rogers is!!! Didn't recognize his name, but I do know the song Barrett's Privateers....it was tickling away at the back of my mind and I finally remembered! I heard it for the first time at a Toronto production of "The Needfire." It was a beautiful song, and although I remembered the melody, didn't recognize the title at first.

(I'm feeling a little better since I do know all of the other artists that Christie and kokopelli mentioned).

I'm sure you've tracked down all the internet sources for Stan Roger's music. If you need me to pick up something for you here that you can't order over the internet, let me know and I'll see if I can find it for you.

Thumbs up

I *love* Stan Rogers. Have the "Home in Halifax" CD.

Used to go to a celtic pub here and listen to someone sing a lot of his songs.

I saw Stan Rogers in concert several times..most of them at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. He died tragically in a plane crash..the one where people died from toxic smoke fumes, not from the crash, caused by someone smoking in the washroom.
He left us with many classic songs: if you haven't heard him, now's the time! Such a deep, rich voice.

Oh, and check out Lennie Gallant while you're at it.
(And there's Rawlins Cross, McKeel, ...the East Coast has a wealth of unique music.)
