Colin Bradley Pastel Pencils

Hi!

I'm new here in Pastels. I usually do watercolours, but I'd like to try out doing animal portraits in pastel pencils.

I found the Colin Bradley website with the cat and dog demos and there will be a show of his drawing cats video on The Painting & Drawing channel next week. He uses Faber Castell pencils, which are from Germany, but the Colin Bradley set of 24 isn't available here. It would be expensive to order it from the UK, but I can't find the list of colours it contains to buy them individually. Since a lot of his demos are animal portraits I think his palette of colours would be more useful to me than the all purpose set. So my questions is, can someone here send me a list of the colours the Colin Bradley set contains? The numbers would do. Or do you have some suggestions which 24 colurs would be most useful (for backgrounds too)?

Any help greatly appreciated. And thank you for all the informative threads about doing fur and eyes and things in pastel. They'll keep me busy for a while and give me a good start.

Generally I'd suggest you just ask the artist the colors and explain your dilemma, but I looked at the site and there's no way to contact him directly that I can see, just an order phone. There are some fantastic pastelists doing animals here. Check out Heather Laws, for one...

Hope others can help you out!

Deborah

Hi Carolyn! Colin Bradley's website is at http://www.bradleygallery.co.uk/. But I'm not sure if it's still maintained. The Starter-Packs-page was last updated in 2003.

Hi Deborah! Thank you for your reply. Why didn't I think of that? If I can't contact the artist, I will write to Faber Castell. They have nothing to loose by telling me, I'll buy their pencils either way

Hi Julia, nice to meet you. Did you know there is an Animal and Wildlife forum here on WC? Some people there know about Colin Bradley.
