Quick sketch portraiture pricing

Hi Friends,

I posted this question under Art Business, but didn't get much of a response. I thought I'd try here. I would like to start doing quick sketch portraits at craft fairs and that sort of thing, but I'm at a loss as to what to charge. I did this over 30 years ago, but times have changed. Recently, I tried doing 11X14 colored pencil portraits for $20, but in most cases, just made the entrance fee back. I think it has to cost little enough that person will do it on an impulse, but I don't want to sell myself short. I'm planning to do 11X14 black and whites at this point. Any input I can get would be appreciated.

Re: Quick sketch portraiture pricing

Did you have samples of your work available? I would think that $20 would be a very reasonable price for an 11x14. I know I would not be good at quick sketches...it takes me a long time to do a colored pencil portrait. How long does your quick sketch take?

Have you seen this thread:

He's still active here and still doing quick portraits. Maybe send him a PM or email or direct him to your thread.
