Thread For Christmas Swap Wip's And Artwork-2007-Open Till Jan 14th
This is the official thread for all your WIP's, Finished Art and comments re: Your Portrait Swap 2007.
Hi all! Thanks everyone for joining this and making this so much fun for all the new people who are in on it and for the past return people too! This whole idea was a great thing for the Portrait Forum and everyone really has a good time participating from what I recall.
In this thread, you can feel free to post your work in progresses, final portraits, questions, comments and such. I think it stood that you should ask before posting reference pictures, from previous years, so maybe that would be a good thing to do; ask your partner at the beginning, if they mind you posting the ref shot they provided, before you do. I know I don't mind but some may.
Thanks all and Enjoy!

Are you still missing a person? If so, one of my fellow students is interested. I told her the cut off was yesterday. Let me know as she said she was joining wetcanvas today. Thanks

Joss, three cheers for the excellent job you did to continue the tradition of this challenge. We are all greatful.
Richard, I can see Gayles strong likeness, even from your early sketch. You're off to a great start.
Gayle Richard's creative pose gave you a bunch to work with. I'm looking forward to see your approach.

Re: Thread For Christmas Swap Wip's And Artwork-2007
Hello...Here is number two of Gayle WIP...
I am making a conscience effort to take pictures along the way in between stage.
The first post showed my outline which i did using the grid method and drawn using pastel pencil. My ref picture to portrait ratio is 1:2. So I am drawing twice the size of my ref photo.
Here, I also worked on the eyes until I felt that Someone (hopefully Gayle) is looking out at me. I will go back touch them up every now and then to add more life and shine especially as I pick more colors for the skin tone. I like to put a little of the skin tone color in my eyes.
Now I have started to lay in rough shapes of color to help define the shape and terrain of the face and I am experimenting with color to determine what the general flesh tone will look like. At this point, I don't care too much about accuracy or covering my grid lines. I am just developing shapes, textures and directions. Also this allows to me gather the colors that I am going to use to create Gayle.

Re: Thread For Christmas Swap Wip's And Artwork-2007
Great job so far, Richard... looking forward to your WIP. I have Bluefishwinder--- Graham... and we have exchanged photos already and Graham informs me I am in for a "surprise". This should be interesting as I have decided to do something a bit different with Graham's portrait as well, with his encouragement. Which he might be sorry for..
Well- this is my preliminary drawing which I need to transfer to the canvas now. I will keep you posted, Graham.

Re: Thread For Christmas Swap Wip's And Artwork-2007
Now I have it blocked in- this is 16" X 20" oil on canvas. I will start with the white and add some lights and midtones. Also showing what I am looking at to do the fish.
Graham- if you don't like the fish I can take him out.... but I think he adds a little bit of strangeness to what might otherwise just be a ho-hum painting. But maybe not...
And this is my reference--- my notebook computer.
