Some recent paintings

Hi,
I haven't posted on the wetcanvas site for a long ,long while. Many of reasons for that.
I started teaching art and craft at a preschool and am always looking for new and interesting ideas to try out with the budding young artists.Hence a lot of time is spent in research and devising new projects. It is an absolute delight working with 4 to 5 year olds. They teach us a few things sometimes.
I hope to join in the wetcanvas projects from November after we have our first annual art and craft exhibition at the preschool.
I also started doing an online acrylic course recently to improve my skills. These are some of the works I have done for the course. Hope you like them. They are all acrylic on canvas. Sizes assorted from 8 x 10 to 12 x 16.

Would welcome C & C.

Re: Some recent paintings

On the first one, you have a DELIGHTFUL path I'd love to follow, but the foliage in the trees and/or sky is not defined or varied enough to go with that lovely path. Your light source seems a little confused, too, as the cast shadows make it seem like the light comes from the right, while the light side of the largest two trunks makes it seem like the light comes from the left.

The second is very nicely done except for the steps. Without seeing your reference photo, I can't tell exactly what went wrong, but they look flat. However, the colors, shadows, buildings, foliage, etc, are all excellent.

On the third, the shoulder of the road should get narrower in the distance, there should be a slight color shift (bluer/grayer) to the shoulder as it gets narrower, and I'd like to see a few shadows/slightly darker shades on the buildings.

I'm having trouble understanding the anatomy of the house on the fourth. Is that parallelogram on the right the roof of the next house down the road? I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with your painting, but I would have chosen a slightly different angle for the composition to visually separate the houses better. If you want to improve this one, why not stick a tree in between the houses and make the roof of the second a little grayer?

Hope that's what you were looking for. Welcome back to WC!

I really like all of these and the terrific colors. Well done. You have some very helpful comments from Angela which I think would help with either these paintings or your next ones. Hope we see more of your work.

Beautiful! Love the middle top one. The blue as shadow looks great and really lifts the picture!

Re: Some recent paintings

Thanks, Naomi, Ann, Holly and Angela for all the comments.
I really do appreciate your taking the time, Angela to offer all the helpful advice on my work which helps me to see it all with a better perspective. I will work on the areas you have commented on for these paintings and I am sure will be much more observant when I attempt my next painting.

Very nice. Like the white house with red stairs the best. You are bombing right ahead smoothly.
