my first stained glass design

Here's the first stained glass design that i decided follow through with... What do you guys think? (I stole the round glass piece from my fiance's livingroom decoration..

I'm trying to stick with the fact that i have to clean my iron more, and fit is VERY important, so i make sure to take the time if i have to go back to the grinder for the millionth time.. heh

Re: my first stained glass design

Great job. I love using found objects in my art pieces.
and yes my grinder gets lots of attention from me. My grinder is my friend. Wait until you are doing pieces that are 2 feet x 3 feet or larger talk about grinding. One thing I found with my soldering is consistant temp is important and techinque is also important. I don't pick my iron up between the intersections. If you need any tips let us know there are a lot of stained glass artists here. I''m sure someone can help.
Keep up the good work. You did a great job.

Re: my first stained glass design

Hey that's a good one.. I was watching an instructional video recently and woman explain to never just pick up the iron halfway through a section... always pull off to the side.. and if you have to pick up halfway through, make sure to double back a tiny bit to blend the solder in.. So you just make sure to pull off at an intersection?

it measures at 2.25"x7", and thanks all!

Yes, I don't pick up the iron I touch (dab) the solder onto the iron without picking it up just let it flow till you need more. I also spot tack all the intersections before I do the mail lines. You did great. I did not realize it was your very first piece.

Wonderful job for a first time! It reminds me of the rememberance ribbons. Stained glass is one of those things on my long list of things I want to try. I hope you post more as you progress.

Re: my first stained glass design

Thank you lizajayne! I will most definitely post more when i finish... I've already got another piece in mind that i will have to do soon.. I can see myself really using a lot of my free time doing this.. I blink and a couple hours pass...

Sharyl: It's my first piece that i designed. I made one before this from a pattern and I was a little too excited to see the finished work that I hurried, didn't clean my iron, and had no ideas on technique for soldering either.. so I don't like to count that... i won't destroy it, but it's not "on the fridge" so-to-speak..
