Red Zinnia - X-Posted in CP Forum

Hi everyone, this is my first post of a painting here & any feedback is welcome.

This is colored pencil on Bristol Vellum & is about 5x7". CP is not my usual medium so C&C is gratefully accepted.

The background is actually a very dark green & not the olive green shown here.

Thanks for looking,
ABA

ABA, i really like this crop! the vellum seems to have helped to create the softness of the petals. you did well to make the surface work for you.

This composition gives the feeling of a very delicate bloom. Very well done. I'd like to see some brighter highlights perhaps, just on the edges of the already highlighted areas. This will give it more impact as it appears in the sun.

Great work.

Very nice, I agree about the interesting crop - CP seems very challenging and time consuming!

I love the composition...and the petals are just beautiful. Sometimes the type of lights or if you used a flash with throw the colors off.

Oh I love your SN "artist by accident" that is so creative and cute!

Thanks for your comments & suggestions. I'm working on them now. CP is a challenge & very time-consuming!

My screen name fits as I never expected to get into art as much as I have.

Hi ABA,

I really like this macro composition for the red zinnia. Beautiful work on the form of the petals and the lovely shadows.

What medium do you normally work in since CP isn't the usual one? You did a terrific job with it.

Sylvia

I think I've gone about as far with this as I can. I know it's still not as good as it could be but I'm just skating across the surface trying to add any more color. Thanks to everyone for the help - while it's not perfect, it looks a lot better.

Sylvia, I really haven't done much in any medium for quite a while but I lean toward watercolor and acrylic inks. I'm sure you can tell why I like the inks as this zinnia shows that I like vibrant color!

Rather nice ABA! I like the crop and the colour - and it's quite difficult to get the tones right with cp - very time-consuming; but I think you've done a really good job on this.
Like you, I love acrylic inks for their saturation . Hard to beat! ... but I also like CPs for their ease of use!
