Check out the website of Justine Smith, a very cool artist whose medium is...well, paper money: http://www.justinesmith.net/ In addition to her works on paper and sculpture, don't miss her back catalog!

She's not, of course, the only artist working in paper currency: http://www.alternatingcurrency.com/

Mark Wagners art is impressive. Who would ever think you do subtle shadings with designs on money?

And think how painstaking it must be! I'm just in awe...

Paper & Book Arts links

Here's a link to a cool site with a number of examples of interesting book art. Some of these sites I've posted before, but they're all worth taking a second look at:
http://www.funforever.net/archives/d...-this-at-home/

Scottish artist Georgia Russell's stuff just blows me away...

Re: Book Arts revisited

Hi Rose Queen and Mary,
These books are amazing. I think I saw them before but wonderful to have another look anyway. I haven't been on the forum because I am too busy at uni. I only have SEVEN WEEKS to go and I will be finished, so you'll see more of me then. But I HAVE been thinking about you.
I am doing an "Artist's Books' elective at uni. I have made 2 books, and have 2 more to make in the next 7 weeks.

My first one had to be Japanese stab-bound. My starting point was an old heliconia watercolour that I was willing to cut up. Then I made a whole lot of green paste papers & went from there.

The second one had to have a concertina involved and also to be scuptural and have a hard cover. My starting point was a roll of silver card that I got at Reverse Garbage. I have sewed signatures on to both the mountain and valley folds. I gessoed the non-silver side of the card & threw gold & silver inks over it. It has a gold bookcloth cover & it is called Bling. Not quite finished yet, as with bling, more is better. I keep adding.

I belong to a books art mailing list where we don't participate ourselves but get mail from curators & so forth. Robert Heather who is at the State Library of Victoria is a fountain of information. Here's a link that he recommended.
http://www.gracialouise.com/artists_books.html Some beautiful books of lithographs there.

I should be studying now, but I can't concentrate today, basically because I'm expecting a call to tell me someone is dead. It's my friend's brother who had an operation the other night, then starting bleeding internally, then as they were taking him back to the theatre his heart stopped. They took some time to resuscitate him. He's had no reponse for several days, and this morning the family were going to 'talk to the doctors'.

Just dazzling -- click on some of the pieces and you can get an animation that shows how she "builds" these pieces -- mind-blowing!
