Hails from United States
Smile "Nervous in the service"

Today I went to a remote section of this island. There was so much beauty in this area, but either the vegetation was so dense, or there where fences. I don't like going over fences into private property without permission, but I really wanted to get a picture in there. Once I started I heard gun shots, probably someone shooting deer down from me. Then I heard horses not far from me; I couldn't see them, but all this was making me a bit nervous. Because of the circumstances, I rushed this 9x12 oil a bit. If only the general public knew what we plein air people go through Yax

Dear Yax,

Your painting does not reveal the nervousness you felt, nor the rush you went through to get it done before hopping back "over the fence." It shows a calm beauty of the area you were in!

Realizing your hurried state...the focal point is not clear, although you allow the eye to travel nicely into and through the piece.

You're right, plein air painting may move quickly while painting, but finding and holding the right spot takes time and in your case, bravery.

Diane

You're getting good at this plein air stuff, Yax! Beautiful piece-- and it looks so peaceful. When I look at it, I can't hear the gunshots.

Funny you should mention horses. I was thinking of setting up in the middle of a little path yesterday when reason took hold of me. It was a nice little path but it was at the crest of a hill and with all the horse foot prints I just saw a picture of some horse topping the hill and running me over so I moved on.

This one is nice and loose with good color. Like the treatment of the swell on the water.
