White on white WIP

I am going for something completely different here and am going to try to paint a white calla lily on a white background - saw a painting like this and it looked so superb having only a tiny bit of dark.
So this is my rough underpainting:

Apologies for picture - taken at night but hopefully will all be upwards from now on with the addition of glazes.

Ooh Ruth this is nice already. Are you using glazing medium for this? I have a white calla lily ref pic I want to try but I might wait and watch how you make out first. I love how we can learn so much from each other at WC-- you guys are a real gold mine!

Re: White on white WIP

Thanks Dreamz, - hope to get there
Kay - must look at your results!
Audrey - delighted to be an inspiration
Here is an early morning photo - maybe begining to show the layer of glazes I've ued to get all the luminous colours in thi particular lily

The stalk is too dark for the light - so will change to a more yellow green full light stalk - still want to keep an area of dark colour for balance in the painting.... try to get a full range of values in .....

Re: White on white WIP

Thanks Linda - there are lots of colours in there - i find that I can never work out the correct colour and see only purple then only blues then greens - well you get the idea - I just keep on blending in and adjusting with a watery layer of white if its getting too over saturated....
LuLu!!!!! would love to see you - we have visitors from Sydney the following week - arriving this Friday - so how about a rendevous on Wednesday????

I'm a little stuck at the moment as the composition seems to need something to balance the lower right hand corner - there is too much empty space and the painting needs grounding so as to speak...
any suggestions are very welcome...
I want to keep it white - although have toyed with various sketches of lily leaves - wondering about an out of focus lily shape in the distance abuting this one....
Watch this space...
