Peony - WIP

I started this 14 x 14" acrylic on canvas tonight based on a photo I've been saving for some time. The Peony has to be one of the most exquisite flowers I think.

The painting's definitely evolving as it goes along. I'm rather liking the edgy style and hope to carry it through to a satisfying completion.

Yeah your right this flower is one of the most exquisite and I've been studying the details of this flower for quite some time. This one looks good already...

I like the edgy style too. I'm watching to see how you tackle such a complicated flower. It's so beautiful already.

Re: Peony - WIP

Thanks, I did get to paint a little bit yesterday, but not ready to show progress yet, in the "yikes" stage! Anyway, the reference photo is by flickr photographer Denis Collette who graciously extended me permission to use his reference photo seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/deniscollette/432260229/

LOL I love the term- Yikes stage! I will have to remember that, it just fits the early ugly stage so well.

Re: Peony - WIP

I almost gave up on this one. I diverged away from the original style a bit as I couldn't quite pull it off to my satisfaction. Anyway, many colors later, here's my finish. I'm not that keen on central point of interest, but this was such a striking photo and felt it really should be painted as originally cropped.

Again, it's acrylic on 14 x 14" stretched canvas.

Re: Peony - WIP

Oh I really like it. I like the red color with the added touches of green so pretty. All those tiny little petals on the reference would have drove me crazy... and you pulled it off very well.

Re: Peony - WIP

Oh wonderful! You've managed to create the fullness without actually delineating each petal. It has great depth. I like it a lot.
