Couple o models

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Couple o models
Year Created: 2007
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Dimension: 9x12
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
so......
obviously a lotta anger is conveyed here..my intention was to distort the faces to show not the projected image these lovely ladies show to the world, but rather show their ugly souls...
I like to think these two women, whom I do not know (found the picture on google), have cold, empty souls--especially the one leaning her head back...just look at her...she's obviously crazy..anyone who makes herself laugh during a photo shoot and then manages to look right at the camera...is a little off

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
whatever

Kate
This is your best work to date, for me
The girl on the left is beautifully painted.
The expression is awesome

OMG...
This is SO raw. I would like to express what I think (know) you were feeling while you were painting this, but then, my reply would be deleted (due to improper words). This is horrifying. On a good way. You get your get your message out... that is for sure!!! Great, emotive work.

Re: Couple o models

ugly, scary, yes.....I'm very perceptive and often see this side of, well, most people....if not ingenuity, just an overall lack of compassion....very hard to find someone who is there for you all the time

Re: Couple o models

Great idea. I like the one on the left very much. I think with her face you captured what you were going for. The other isn't done as well, obviously imo. The one on the left maintains some semblance of "humanity" (showing that her outer beauty could mask her evil soul) while the other is unworldly, nothing could cover that evil.

But a great idea and I really like the colors and bold brush work.

Re: Couple o models

I'm curious as to what responses you would've had were you to post it as a stand-alone, i.e. without the first photo. Do you truly believe this is putting your money where your mouth is? I agree that this is one of your best uses of color and strokes but doubt if it could continue its interest for any length of time and stand on its own subjectively. I also agree that shocking and ghastly has a niche and that all voices should be seen and heard.

Most importantly though, if doing this kind of portraiture helps you to relax then I'm all for it however, you might not have many (live) sittings.

Re: Couple o models

Yikes! Yes, you've painted them ugly with a lot of anger going into it but for some reason, I don't understand why. I see the evil twins.

Well painted, however.

Re: Couple o models

thanks everyone for your input....

I may have gone overboard with the chick on the right...I did the one on the left first...but I guess I just got angrier and angrier as the painting process moved along definately good therapy....

more to come...beware!!!

Re: Couple o models

Sorry, but I don't see ugly souls in the photo. In fact, I very rarely see an ugly soul in anyone. Look deeper and you can always find a little good in almost every soul.
I prefer to bring out the beauty and not the ugly.
To each his own!
