6 mile canyon
I think this was my first post after lurking for months. This is painted from Virginia City looking out the famous 100 mile view. This is Sugarloaf Mtn.
My computer messed up and I've lost all my pictures, so here is the url...

Re: 6 mile canyon
I've been to Virginia City and that is the view exactly. I never would have thought to paint it though and here you've made a beuatiful painting of it.
So very sorry to hear about your loss of photos...happened to me a few years back...devastating! But it taught me to back up my photo files once a month. Good luck to you.

Re: 6 mile canyon
The url did not work for me, saying I was a visitor and could only view certain works I've been with WC for 7 years now.....lol I'm sorry you lost your photos too. I need to back mine up more often.

Hi, Carol... I was able to wave my magic mod wand and post your picture here... so we don't have to use the link.
It's lovely with a very pleasing composition! And great colors!

Carol, I like the feeling of distance you've achieved in this. Very nice.

Re: 6 mile canyon
Thanks Diane!!!
This was one of those paintings they say that paint themselves.
OOPS forgot to tell you this is in soft pastels, using a variety of ludwigs, unison, rembrant, nupastel... and done on Wallis.
Thanks Ralph, I was trying to show the hundred miles, Could only get in 50!!
Mikki, I have teenagers, need I say more!!!
Hi ya Sassy, Hope you can see this now (; I don't know why the url wouldn't work, just don't have that magic touch. I am heading up to your neck of the woods next week on vacation.

Re: 6 mile canyon
Nice picture Carol, what are the specs? I have a funny story, last spring my 14 year old daughter was cleaning out the memory to make room for a game. She put all my photo's in the trash bin. I do the yearbook for the school I work for and all the pics where in there. Luckly my hubby is a programmer, but still he couldn't retreive all of them for me. I now have all my photo's in a file under my name and she's not allowed to touch it.

Re: 6 mile canyon
Hi Danna,
Yep,,,it was those cursed downloads. They even have their own computer, but with wi/fi they managed to dump it all.
This picture is 9 by 12. About 80% done plein air.
I did it about a year ago, and just looking at it again I'm itching to dabble and make some more corrections. But I am done, it's framed and hung in a show (Honorable Mention!!!) it was only my second painting!!!

Re: 6 mile canyon
Carol this is quite lovely, I like this viewpoint. Well done. I can sympathize over the loss of your photos, after having finally gotten all mine onto computer, the computer died and I lost them all. Now am working on the same project again, with less enthusiasm this time, and backing up to disk after each session!!

Re: 6 mile canyon
Nice rich colors!
Ahhh, know it well, I have taken many workshops at the Saint Mary's Art Center in Virginia City, NV. I have some very fond memory's of my stays there. A painter pal of mine and myself took a half day brake from painting and took pictures down 6 mile canyon.
One morning I got up early just in time to watch the mustangs come feed on the lawn at the center. It was a real gift from nature for this early riser.

Nice painting, lots of depth.
Loosing photos is soooo sad. Sorry.

Re: 6 mile canyon
Thanks Sue, Kathy, and Jo. OOOHHHH Kathy what a treat you got with the wild mustangs that morning. They are one reason I love living here. I get to see them all the time. I've never drawn horses, but should, as these guys are magnificent, and are one of the true last bastions of "freedom". I'll take some pictures of the next herd I see and post them here for all of you to paint if you wish!

Re: 6 mile canyon
Jo,
Loosing all my picture files was terrible, but I can take more!!! There are greater losses in life.
I have learned, and so have my kids!
