carrying case for canvas panels

I made this out of leftover masonite after having a sheet cut for canvas panels. That's why the ends are longer than the sides. A carpenter, I ain't! Anyway, it was cheap and easy.

I had the lumber co. man cut these wooden strips 12" long (they came in 36" lengths). I glued them onto two 12" high pieces of masonite, then attached them to a bottom piece. I glued the pieces together and then used L-shaped pieces of metal with holes for screws (whatever you call those things) to screw them together. Attached the end pieces the same way. The picture shows the box with several masonite canvas panels inserted between the wooden strips. It holds them apart so you can carry them without smudging.

Now I just have to rig up a handle, and it will be great.

I saw something like this for sale on a website, but this was real cheap and works fine. I made it big enough to carry a dozen or so panels, but it could easily be made to carry 3 or 4.

Ruth

Good idea, Ruth, but it looks heavy and awkward--I hope you don't have to carry it far.

Thanks Phyllis! No, this one is for the back seat of the car, to transport paintings home from workshops and paint-outs. I want to make a smaller one to carry paintings from site to car, and I'm trying to figure out how to make an adjustable one for different size panels.

I was thinking it would be nice to staple a strip of canvas to the back of the canvas panels at one end, to use as a handle for carrying individual panels. I might try that before trying to build any more.

R.

Hi Carly,
I am going to purchase some, the next time I need supplies. I will be getting the linen panels, as I prefer them.
There is another support company called :
Source Tek
http://canvaspanels.com

Their's are more expensive than Raymar.

Linda

You can also check out a variety of panel carriers at:
http://openboxm.com

Their products are top quality. I got their twin stainless steel solvent cups that I use everyday. They are terrifically nice people too.
Love,
Linda

I will be interested to hear a report on Raymar panels.

I use the 1 1/2 lb. wet canvas carrier by EZ Go easels:

http://www.sun-eden.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=Oil

It comes with two velcro pieces to carry several panels or you can remove them for carrying canvases. I only work on two paintings on one trip so this carries both canvas and/or panels easily. Accomodates both large and small works.

I thought I had seen directions on how to make a small carry case for panels, but just did a search and didn't find any. Does anyone have this information? Larry?? Maybe Wayne made one today since he was up at 5 am and it may have been raining again.
