12 Monthly Challenges, August 2007

Hi Everyone and welcome to the August Challenge.

We talked about cats and music so they will be our focus for the month.

You can do them together in your art or seperate.

To understand,” said Raphael, “is to equal.”

So thinking of music, think of your emotions.

Do you think of dancing, love songs, your family or something else?

Or when you listen to music do you hear nothing but music?

What do cats and music have in common?

Cat's the Musical

Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats
T. S. Eliot
London: Faber, 1939 (1962)

Here's our kitty to all do together if you want.

I've not got a lot to offer so far, so I am asking for everyone's help
to add to this month. Let's have a good time and learn something with
our challenges.

Good luck and happy August! Nickle

Re: 12 Monthly Challenges, August 2007

This will be fun. I like the kitty with it's ears back and " ready to bat" look......

I bet there is alot of interesting stuff with a music theme - good opportunity to look around.....

Every one in our family is safe.. but it is amazing that only betwween 20-30 probably died.. It could have been so many more.. Thank you very much for the prayers for the people and families.. they do help... Margot

Re: 12 Monthly Challenges, August 2007

I hope to join in this one- making an early start. Its certainly a good combination to think about for the month: cats and music. I think of love songs when I think of music, and I love cats. I just bought a book called 'Impressionist cats & dogs'- work by Renoir, Manet, etc. Renoir seems to have included cats a lot. Would you like me to scan in some illustrations from the book?

Are impressionist artists considered 'classical' by now? Anyway, they do paint representationally.

Maybe I'll do a search for imagery (paintings).

Tyree I like your kitty - it is trying very hard to place the tune

Here is Leonardo da Vinci - Study of Cat Movements and Positions
The Royal Library, Windsor Castle. I have been meaning to copy some of his stuff and here is the perfect oportunity, however I also am going to try my hand at the "batting" cat

Anghwar, thanks all these kitty studies are great!

Now who do I like better Gainsborough or da Vinci

After supper I'll have to check out the jokes.........I love jokes.

Ok now I did the our example for the month.........
I think I am going to do it again, if you notice the whiskers, it's a French cat. plus used a 12 brush I do have smaller brushes, and I
didn't like the titanium white, can you tell? Not one of my better days yesterday.
