MY COMMENTS:
the irregularities in the perspectives are due to the camera image I worked from. I like the skewed perspectives in the background.<br>This was painted on the Mailliard Ranch in Yorkville, CA

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
the post and water faucet were in bright but not direct light and the interior of the ba<br> was unlit save for the dust covered window in the end of the building.<br><br>Are these atmospheric aspects of the painting convincing?<br>Is the subject of interest?<br>any comments as to emotional reaction, or lack of it, to the work.

I find the lighting convincing and I really like the perspective. I find it extremely interesting, but then again when I get "bored" with drawing I'll draw tools.

But really great I really like it a lot.

Corby! WELL DONE! I love this. Wonderful work on the wood and the house in the bg. My only suggestion would be to treat the water pipe the same as you've treated the spigot. The pipe looks much too light and clean and new.

You nailed that faucet!

The contrast of the weathered metal with the white surroundings emphasizes the faucet, but I agree with Dana.. that pipe looks like PVC and fights the saltiness of the piece.

With regard to emotional reaction, mine was curious.

What is the relationship beteen the cool water that has poured out of that old faucet - and the people, plants and animals it has cooled and infused?

Intellectually, I get that. But maybe a few more clues would give it more emotional punch.

I like the lighting, though the pipe looks too new for the rest of the picture, although it could easily be the modernized material in the old world. Otherwise I could just imagine " quenching my thurst"

Maybe some repairs were done and that elbow piece of pipe is new. I like the contrast of it with the old faucet. And the background is very good - the house in the background with the light on and the fence make the faucet standout.

I want to turn on that faucet. And I can feel the texture of the wood.

I think the light and dark effects are very interesting. It strikes me as night time but the flash of a camera has lit up the faucet.

I like this composition a lot, including the skewered perspective. I agree with the comments about the pipe, I would age it. I really feel that the wood is all too white. I think it needs warmed up just a tiny bit. Maybe a very, very thin wash of burnt umber. Trust your own judgement though. It's a good painting.

John Jaster I can see the scenario you describe. I am not sure anyone has picked up on the fact that this is looking into the interior of a barn/shed and the background windows are filtering sunlight from outside through the dirt on the window. I appreciate your liking the textural effects!

Wassie Thank you so much for haveing a look at this. Part of the reason for painting this was indeed that contrast between the old faucet and the modern plastic pcv pipe!

Billmahler Hi Bill! Your point is well taken. There is a huge history with this place, back to the days the original family came in on covered wagon. It would take too long in the telling. I tried to suggest bridging the gap from then to now with the faucet contrasting with the pcv. I appreciate your insight!

Bob Rooney Hi Bob, good to hear from you. Yes the wood is very white, one would tend to gray it down or even brown it down, but it was whitewashed and I wanted the great contrast with the warm interior of the barn. And the pipe? There again I wanted that faucet to jump out and at the same time make a statement about the old and the new bridging the gap of time.... thanks for your keen eye!
