Down but not out

Ever since Midge posted a homeless man a month or so back I've been doodling with this guy. Having known a few of these guys their plight has had a disturbing soft spot in my heart, so this is my story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks Midge.

I call him Dave.
Size 11x15"
Paper Stratmore Bristol 500 vellum 2 ply
Graphite and charcoal
HB through 8B wood pencils and HB & 2B Mech. pencil (.05mm)

Any resemblance to anyone living or dead is coincidental. All remarks good or bad appreciated.

Jim

Great drawing Jim, it sure stirs the emotions and tells a sad story.

Re: Down but not out

Great job Jim. I hope you have more luck with keeping emotion out of this type of drawing. After several drawings I had to stop. They were depressing me. Thanks for thinking of me, and for doing such a great job.

Re: Down but not out

Thanks Steve and Midge. A lot of what I draw is inspired by emotion. I remember telling someone here that to me emotion comes before technique. I want my work, good or bad, to touch someone. If i do that I've done my job right.

Jim, this is one of the best things that I have seen you do. I have downloaded it for study, I hope you do not mind.

CSG1973 Thanks for looking and if I haven't said it before, welcome to D&S.

JayD I really appreciate you comments. Don't look at it to close, you may find all my mistakes.

Re: Down but not out

Tammy, thanks for your comments. This is one of those journeys you start and cross your fingers hoping that it will turn out ok. From the responses I've gotten so far from the talented artist here, I guess it did turn out ok. Thanks so much, everybody, for making this a weekend to remember.

Good job, Jim. The homeless have such interesting character and often emotion to draw. I'm with joane ... excellent work on the beard!

Re: Down but not out

Thanks Joane and Ken. If I were ever to do a series as you have done Ken, it would probably be something like the plight of the homeless or other forgotten people. There is just to much of this going on and most people turn there back and pretend it doesn't exist. Enough of that, thanks again.
