OOB Thread

For those who may not know ( I didn't), OOB stands for Out of Bounds. It is a technique for manipulating photos to look 3D by bringing part of the photo out of the frame. There are several tutorials on the web that explain the process using a step by step approach. I used this one by Serrator.

I thought I would start an OOB Thread for people to post their OOB manips.

These were my first 2 tries.

I knew very little about it until LadyMacs OOB thread piqued my interest.
If you Google OOB Photoshop you can find a lot of good examples including a Worth 1000 contest and tutorial.
I thought I would start a thread to see what others can do with this technique. Although there are a lot of steps to it, it can be done with Photoshop or PS Elements and isn't difficult. It is fun and addictive!

So lets see some examples of or your OOBs. I found the above mentioned tutorial very useful

Terry! Good to see you posting again! I like the examples you did, especially the portrait!

I enjoy doing OOB when I have time. Here is one I did from an image in the RL. I took it into illustrator and played with it first.

Hi everyone,

I think both of you have done very well with your OOBs, Serrator would be pleased. I have been doing OOBs for about 12 months and they are one of my favourite things to do in photoshop. When I learn a new technique I try to incorporate it into OOBs, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I've been playing with this OOB stuff for the last few days and I must admit, shamelessly getting some ideas from the Flickr OOB group.
Here are a couple of others I've done. Still working on the shadow technique. I don't have it quite right yet.

Am still trying to get the hang of this ... the shadow is giving me major issues, but I think somewhere along the line I missed a step ...

Sue,
You went straight to advanced! That wet paint brush OOB looks fantastic. I like the mule cart too, but I think maybe the original photo wasn't so sharp. But I like what you did with it.

Well, thanks, Terry! I sure wish I had CS2 then I could warp these pics as well, but I can't afford the upgrade so will have to settle with plain old straight frames for the time being.

And you're right - the quality of my original of the mules was really poor.

Here's my latest effort - the drop shadow is better in this one...

Too much fun happening here!!!!

I like the work you have both done. I am working on one atm and will upload it when finished.

Terry, I think you are coming along in the shadow stakes. Maybe they need to be a litle darker. You seem to be placing them properly though

Sue, WOW, I love your paint brush. Everything just seemed to fall into place with that one. Well done. I think the mules might have worked better without the bottom frame. I don't like to do OOBs with more than one frame, that is just me, I have seen some really beautiful OOBs with more than one frame. Very good attempt.

That starfish is cool! How did you do that background??

Over in the other OOB thread I started, Chuck asked if I had the tool that makes the flower "bulge" in the middle. I have PS7 ... do I have that tool??? LOL - wouldn't have a clue what to call it!!!!

Here's some new offering from me. I haven't done a thing at all today - was supposed to do my work laundry, finish the dishes, pick up more dawg ahems, and a bunch of other things. Oh well, I get another day off in 5 or 6 days

I have LOTS more ideas!!! Off to play some more!

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!! Now this looks a really cool 'time eater'.

What fantastic work you have all done! Never even heard of OOB but glad you guys have.

I just HAVE to have a go at this, and have decided to delegate all household duties to my beloved

while I chase on into the link that Terri posted.
