Singapore Buddah...WIP
Started this 9x12" on a piece of Black Essdee I had lying around. In working on it I realized I should have used Black Claybord!!! So am not sure where it will go from here...?????????? Wonder if I should continue with it?
Had seen this Buddah on a stopover in Singapore quite a few years ago!

Clayboard? Start again? I think you should...this was looking pretty good and if you colored areas with irridescent paints of some sort, it would really be pretty.

Karen:
Maybe I'll do a mini and crop it to just the top area on the Black claybord...
don't think I'll go with any more Essdee. I found it hard to work color into it and get fine lines with that.

Bertoni, this was looking very interesting. The color you've added really pops. By the way, what is Essdee? I have never seen any.

Harold:
Essdee is a British "scraperboard" that's been around for a long time way before the invention of Claybord. For me it just doesn't make the grade to compare with Claybord. But that's me!!
If I had started this on Claybord, I don't think I'd want to quit the WIP!

I sure hope you didn't literally scrap it. Put it away for awhile and then brighten up the colors. It is complete as is. Looking good even if it isn't what you were going for.

I really like all the scratching and design around the figure. I'm not entirely sure about the flesh tone in the upper part of the figure though - maybe like Karen suggested - some iridescent paint would give it a more metallic look?

Re: Singapore Buddah...WIP
Using a liquid medium on Essdee is very brave. The ink on Essdee, unlike Claybord, is water soluble. It can easily turn into a muddy mess. I like the idea you have going here, please don't junk it.
Harold...I like Essdee and use it for some of my black and white work.
It can be easily cut to different sizes and odd shapes because it has a cardboard backing, like a mat board. I like the feel of it. It is almost impossible to find anymore, at least the professional quality is hard to find, and that's what I use.

I'm at a loss with this one...I'll hit it with some iridescent paint and then see how I feel about it. I've had success with Essdee in black and white, but as you say Diana..."color can turn into a muddy mess" on Essdee. So...I'll see what I can do with it after I finish an acrylic painting I just started!!
Thanks for the comments!!!!

Burt, I like what I see in this one, it is expressionistic and I agree you should put it away for a while and come back to it.

Re: Singapore Buddah...WIP
Bert, I just came across this. It has a good feel so I too hope you didn't bin it. I've not used essdee, but imagine it can be sprayed with a fixative just like claybord can. If so spray it then try painting it. The spray will fix the black ink coating.
For brighter colors on black claybord this works as well.

Haven't tossed it yet. It's time to have a fresh look at it to decide whether it's worth saving!
