My Impression

16 x 20 canvas. From a photo I recently took, wanted to try for an impressionistic look. C & C's welcome.

Re: My Impression

Tony, I like the painting, lovely palette. The one thing that was noticeable to me was that it was difficult to tell where the two tree tops ended and the background began. I would like to suggest either making the background lighter or do the reverse and make the foreground trees lighter and maybe even different shades of green to offer a bit more separation. I really enjoy your enthusiasm and creativity.

Re: My Impression

I like it. Nice composition. It's like one is standing on a hill looking down into this surreal scene.

Re: My Impression

Ann: Thanx for that comment! Excellent observation.

Val: Thanx for looking!

Hey Tony, I'm back to the bright colors again! My style I guess....Thanx

Linee: Thanx for the comments

I'm posting the reference pic so you guys can see it. This scene has fascinated me every time I go past it. I always lingered at it looking at the huge shadow caused by the two trees then realized there was much more than shadows there. It's a place where cows would sleep at night! They ate all the grass in the surrounding area. I used my artists license to inject a few banana trees into the scene that were not there.

Re: My Impression

Beautiful scene, Tony. I can see why you would like to paint it. Did you note the bluer cast to the background hills?

Re: My Impression

Tony. This is certainly a lovely scene and perfect for your guitar series. The one thing that bothers me is the heaviness of the central tree. I would like to see the background colour behind it lighter so that you can mould negatively a few holes in the foliage. Otherwise , I like it a lot.

Re: My Impression

Lightened up the second row of mountains with c-blue. Made the tree stand out more.

Re: My Impression

That's improved it quite a bit Tony

Those mid-distance trees on the left look as if they are growing on the clearing and don't have the identity they need I feel.
You could try making your clearing more obviously raised (as in the photo) and give a little more definition to the mass of green behind ... separate some of the forms for example. I think if you grey that green down a bit it will recede more too, and allow those focal point trees to hold centre stage

It's a good painting - keep going!
