Hi y'all,

These are in an orthodontist's new office.

Waiting room corner tree...

Town clock by front door...

Quote on wall of fame ( which will show pictures of smiling patients)

Cleaning room wall....

Re: orthodontist's new office murals

You have a way of making your work look very detailed from a small distance but closeups that you often post show the detail is actually very loose. That's what I love about your magical painting style.
How did you accomplish the lettering? I usually groan a bit when I am asked to do lettering.

Really nice, Ruth. Your tree is great. Of course everything else is too, but that tree caught my eye.

I love the tree. The bark is especially nice. Beautiful work. You must share any tips on the bark though

I too love the tree especially! How nice to go to the doctor and have something beautiful to look at instead of sterile walls, and canned pictures.

Re: orthodontist's new office murals

Thanks so much for your comments! I groaned about doing lettering. What I actually said was, "You want ME to do that?" After I explained that I am not very good at it and can't do it like a professional sign-painter, they laughed at me and said whatever I could do would be fine. I had to re-do it with chalk a couple of times to get it sort of right, and then painted over the chalk markings, let dry, wiped off the chalk and re-touched the painted lines. I did this freehand, using a level for the guide lines. Ordinarily I would print out the letters on the computer using one of the available fonts, but they liked this and we went with it.

Here are some close-ups. You can see that the leaves are mostly just globs of different greens and browns, and I did the detailed-looking individual leaves around the edges and on top of the globs.
For the tree trunk bark, I painted first with a darkish brown, then went back over with lighter browns, tans, grays. Then accented with black. That lightish straight vertical line is the actual corner of the wall.

Ahhh Ooooo!!!!! I loooovve it all! The butterflies remind me of the butterfly exhibits at the zoos. You're work is so amazing and you are very talented. I agree with Sue Ann.......THANK YOU FOR SHARING.......I learn soo much from you (and EVERYONE ELSE HERE!!!!! Yes EVERYONE!)

I do have one question....Why didn't you paint over the wainscoting on the clock & tree trunk?

Re: orthodontist's new office murals

You really are amazing, Ruth. Someday when I buy my dream home, I'm gonna get you to come paint a mural for me...

Do you paint the leaves first, or the branches, or do you do it in stages? It almost looks like you do the leaves after the trunk? For me, that's the part I get frustrated with... I now do my trees in roughly 3 stages... background leaves, then trunk and branches, then more leaves. Takes me forever to do a tree!!

I love how you incorporate so many different colors, and how every brushstroke you paint is so intentional and confident and free. Your compositions are perfection. That's all...

Michele

What a great job-I suppose people don't mind going to the orthodontist if they get to look at that!
