Very cool! Very cool! I can just see this hanging in a modern home (or on a fishing boat). How ever did you come up with such an idea. I think some people really reach far with their dreams...and you seem to be one of them.

Re: to be lame: untitled

Hi Thebluestpink

I´m getting - cocoon, plastic babel, skin of a beast, and a very nice age patina (it looks like it has been used).
It´s organic in nature, but looking closer there is a rytm, a a rule of kniting.
Nice work

Re: to be lame: untitled

The concept of this piece stems from a mass experience in the August of 2003. During the blackout of that year, around 2.3 million households and businesses were affected in Michigan. Water, food, electricity, gasoline, and communication became threatened commodities.

The knitted shelter deals with a notion of security within abandonment and abundance. The Meijer bags, with which a knittable material was made, are items that could be fashioned to create a comforting space within a seemingly desolate store(During the blackout, I went to the local Meijer to get some supplies. The lights were dimmed, only certain things could be bought, silence--It seemed peculiar to me that I felt hopelessness in a gigantic store of goods). Nostalgia is brought to the environment through the process of knitting and overall aesthetic of the piece. When seeking unrivaled comfort, people regress back to childhood where the secured spaces that children create involve obvious comforts like security blankets.

Re: to be lame: untitled

thanks TheBluestPink, quite interesting, and you've also explained the title. it did say 'lonely' to me before and with the description you've provided i now will add 'comfort' to my view of it.

Biodegradeable?
I have to marvel at the sheer labour required to make this, and all that shopping!!!
It seems feminine? The chance colour dappling is as organic as I feel the form appears.
