I can't tell you anything about that particular painting, I'm afraid. I expect you know a bit about the artist, do you? Like that he was born in Chicago in 1893, worked mostly in Connecticut where he died in 1971. I found a reference to a painting of his that recently sold at auction for around $6000 (
here and scroll down). There is a much more interesting work of his in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The link to it is
here. This was apparently part of a series of work relating to North Africa and the Sahara desert, so perhaps your painting is part of the same series. The NGA painting is dated 1927.
