fish lampshade

While this lampshaed sits 'proudly' in my spare room. I think it disturbs my husband. How do i know? It' might have been the look on his face when he said "uh, yeah...uh huh..real......nice sweetie" I used those rubbery kind of 'glass paints' had fun doing it & thought 'yall might need something to giggle about. BTW it puts off a really nice, subdued glow when lit. :...what does Phil know any 'ole way? LOL

Don't feel lonely, my husband gets a kind of glazed look in his eyes when he sees some of the stuff I do also. My thing is flamingos and pigs............hehehe Now you know I drive my man nuts. I am going to have to try those paints sometime. I love playing with new things.

Cheryl, is the shell below the lampshade a part of the lamp? I think this would work on a wooden base lamp too...giving the look of the outdoors. Men like the outdoors, don't they?

Did you paint directly over the surface of a regular shade? I love the way the light shines thru illuminating the fish shapes.

Gisela, any time at all! we love visitors! There's a lot of wierd things in my home you may be amused by! : sassy, i love pigs too! i have one you know, he was supposed to be a pot bellied pig but truned out to be a wild boar.....we still love him to death. (my sister is a huge fan of the flamingos) carly, yes the paints are applied to an inexpensive shade. Lots of fun. The shell is the lamp base which gave me the fish idea in the first place, Now the whole room is done in nautical stuff. You know how it goes....paint a fish lampshade & then you have to buy fish throw pillows & then the curtains have to be changed & so on! LOL Sandi, glad you like my weird lamp. I just know that a girl with a hand painted fushia van has some strange things in her own home
& yes Rod, i've already considered the fact that the shade no longer works with the very mundane lamp base.....hmmmmm. Wheels are turning.

cool! rubbery glass paints, eh? You should get into using actual glass - you would be a natural at it!

Thanks for the comments I've gotten some fun ideas from them! My nephew broke one of the pieces of glass on the ugliest lamp in the world. I think the ugliness is what gives it such charm. It was rescued from a dumpster. He asked me for a fix. I cut a piece of plexiglass to fit & used these paints to make it look like the rest of the lamp. He show's it to anyone who will look. ( he thinks his 'ole Aunt Cheryl is pretty awsome! )
I started thinking how fun it would be to create lampshades using plexiglass & these paints. It would be a lot along the lines of stained glass but with the difference in cost you could have a lot of fun & get a little bit wild. Does anyone have any creative ideas on what material i might use to glue panels of plexiglass together? I am looking forward to posting some funky lampshades! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

my only advice would be to use a very simplified lamp base with these shades...


when i first saw this heading, i thought it was a lampshade made of fish!

silicone might work for the plexiglass... i know it works on real glass.. and you could easily do that!


you could just use any glue that will mend plastic to plastic.

Yes i think silicone might work too but could get very messy.
