And a couple more closeups of the multi colored one. I love this one myself.

Re: Kumihimo
OMG, you guys are showing some amazing pieces! (Wait--- let me wipe the drool off the keyboard) I see that there is a how-to in the newest (August) issue of Bead & Button, tucked away on the 89th page or thereabouts... What they're showing is *nothing* compared to the work here! You guys should submit your work!
If this keeps up, I'll have to join you in this... right after I find time to do my first treasure bracelet!

Re: Kumihimo
And some more. This one shows that both the green braids are not the same. One has an olive green suede fiber braided in.

Re: Kumihimo
Hi everyone
Fabulous kumihimo pieces. I've been making braids all week and now that I am in the same place as my beads and stuff, I'm starting to put together a piece with braids and beads. Pictures eventually.
Chris - what are you doing to end the fibers so they don't fray? I can see the wire, which is holding them together, but can't tell how you've treated the strands. Are you glueing or sewing or???

Deni,
I'm doing the old macrame loop and wrap, then put the spiral wire on, and tighten the last loop of silver really really tight around the base and then just a loop to get my jump ring through at the top.
Does that make sense? If not, I'll draw up another drawing and put it up. Let me know.

Re: Kumihimo
LizaJayne and Chris, Gorgeous work from both of you!!!!
I purchased new fibers today from Hobby Lobby (sale items and some mark downs) I bought colors that I already have yarns to match them. I have to get busy and finish some of mine off so they will be complete. I also bought the cone ends today too.

I don't know macrame at all, so could you please explain the 'macrame loop and wrap'. Are you doing this step with the fiber you are using for your braid or a different thread?
Thanks

Deni,
It's really really late here now, but I'll draw something up tomorrow and post it. And yes, I'm doing this with the fiber of the braid.
And thanks Gladys!
Thanks, Chris

Re: Kumihimo
Sorry Chris
I've just gone back to the beginning of this thread and found your tutorial on ending braids. It explains everything I wanted to know. Great tutorial and an easy way to end. I tried to find cones for covering the ends on mine and didn't have any gold filled ones, so your approach will be perfect.
I went to a place today selling absolutely stunning imported silk threads- bought far too many, but will love working with them.
I've also been looking at a Kumihimo book (Catherine Martin's "Kumihimo" and they actually say the pattern I've been using (the one people here described) is not strictly Kumihimo according to the Japanese analysts. But who cares. I will probably also try some other patterns. I guess with the fuzzy fibres the pattern doesn't actually show up very clearly, but with the silk thread it will.

Re: Kumihimo
Your kumihimo is GREAT.
I just didnt enjoy doing it myself. My kumihimo disc and the attached fibers quickly became a favorite toy for my cats.

Re: Kumihimo
Isn't it fun!! Everybody has lots of photos to show - thanks!
I've been doing a couple things to end my Kumihimo braiding. Mostly just letting the ends tie. So I make the strand long enough to tie. For my bracelets I have been using my lampwork beads, make a loop and put that around the bead.
This is a loom I got at Bead & Button from fibergoddess.net. It is great for traveling and she has lots of beautiful fibers too. In fact the bracelet fibers are from there too. This loom is fairly inexpensive and is quite clever!
This is my MaruDai that I do the traditional Japanese Kumihimo on. Here I am getting it ready to wrap the spools with fiber.

Re: Kumihimo
Nancy, Wow cool MaruDai stand. I am so envious!!!! I will have to show my husband this picture of yours and see if he can make me one. Hes a pretty handy carpenter. But I like my hand held one because its so portable.
Very nice bracelet too BTW, love the bead and the colors. I'd wear that in a heartbeat. Do you use Fray Chek on the ends of your fibers? I was just wondering. I love doing the fringie thing at the closure, gives it more personality! I also want to string some seedbeads for one of mine in the near future.
I sat last night and made a white rope where I can get three necklaces out of, then I did a turquoise one longer than the white one, maybe enough left over for a bracelet or two, and then I wanted to use this purple/green/gold ribbon that I purchased Saturday. OMG!!! Is that ever gorgeous, the colors are so rich and viberiant, can't wait until I can sit down and work on it this afternoon. With my vacation this week, I want to actually finish some of my rope up. I will post all when I am finished.
