Re: Kumihimo
The braids are all beautiful and inspired me to order my own disk and supplies. I've only ordered silk for now, to see if I enjoy playing with this new toy. I haven't received it yet, but will post when I've made something.
One question for those of you using the braids with fibers for necklaces. Are they itchy? Looking at them, I thought the eyelash bits and wool braid around the neck might be uncomfortable. I can't even stand the labels that are in the neck of clothes, so wondered if these braids would be even more annoying, even if beautiful.

Re: Kumihimo
Deni, I've been wearing my aqua one, and it's not itchy. I think the key is to use the softer fibers. So much of the "lashes" get woven into the necklace and don't stick out. Try using a chenille or soft "baby blanket" yarn. They make some wonderfully soft and silky cords.
Gladys, your first ones are wonderful! They both sparkle so much! Great job.

Re: Kumihimo
Yes it is Nancy!! I am about to start another one. I want to do some in some earth colors for my wire wrapped agates. I think they will show case very nice on them.
Nancy thanks for starting this thread and getting me to kick it in gear, I didn't want to be left out in all the fun.

Re: Kumihimo
Here are my contributions:
"Minature Tiger Tamer Wear"--I used 2 strands of natural, undyed yarn, 2 strands of "Fun Fur" (I love me some Fun Fur!!), 3 strands of beige embroidry floss, and 1 strand of beigh embroidry floss with a "vanilla" mix of glass e-bead mix on it. The orange pendant and beads I made from polymer clay.

Here's an extreme close-up:
Here's a purple one I did for me...it's the first one I did! I used recycled silk yarn, sari ribbon (both imported from India). The pendant is recycled glass beads from Sri Lanka and a brass "Om" pendant from India. I call it "Purple Om".
I'm planning on making a bunch of bracelets over the weekend. I'm addicted!

Re: Kumihimo
Love those colors Nancy, and Genifer, beautiful!
Here's another with the ivory braid, but not as thick. The first one I doubled the strands so it ended up being about 3/4 of an inch wide, this one is about 1/2 inch in diameter.
I took some of my orphan beads and wove them in about every 2 inches. Then I strung some beads, wound them around the braid, and when I got to the lampwork bead, fed the tiger tail through the bead, wound and repeated.
The clasp is handmade too with gold filled wire.

Re: Kumihimo
I've joined the club. My disk arrived and I've made my first two braids. I'll post pictures later.
I had ordered some silk with my disk but when it arrived I saw it was silk floss - like thread - so it would take lots and lots of strands to make a braid bigger than a strand of hair. I used instead some yarn and ribbon that I had from the days when I knitted (I still have boxes and boxes being kept for the day when I knit again). Made two very chunky braids.
It's so easy to make the spiral rope. Now I want to get more adventurous.

Thanks Gladys! The more I look at it though, I should have gone the other way with the twist on the opposite side, and I wished I hadn't braided in the small star "focal". Oh well, live and learn. Thanks again.

Re: Kumihimo
Welcome to the club Deni!!!! Its such a nice technique to do, very relaxing!
Chris, I think once its on a person and they are wearing it you won't notice what direction the spiral is going in, I didn't until you mentioned it. Its such a lovely piece.
I want to finish mine off today, I found my cones for the ends that I had purchased a long time ago. I think that they will work. The center hole looks large enough. Yesterday I stopped at our local Ben Franklin store, they carry beautiful yarns, and they have this bundle of yarns that has assorted different yarns in it. The bundle cost $20.00, pretty pricy, but if you went out and purchased all those different skins of yarn it would cost way more. On payday I'm going to get a bundle. Thankfully they only have three color combos. Whew saves me some headache there.

Re: Kumihimo
I did one but ran out of yarn with it. The cats had a wonderful time playing with the bobbins!
But I wanted to tell you that in the Homearts magazine july/aug issuse, there is a kids style kit with the disk but it's listing it for plastic lacing things. It's called Lanyard Maker Weave Wheel $5.99, by Tonerplastics, and did get good reviews. It's numbered and comes with plastic lacings. Just a fyi!

Re: Kumihimo
Well, the madness never quits! These things are making me lose sleep! I was wandering Walmart on my first real road trip*, driving myself after my surgery, and found some fibers on sale.
Also, I've added the carnelian horn pendant I bought on Ebay to the ivory one. Thought I'd let you see it all finished.
The multi colored one is longer, so you can just pull it over your head. No clasp!
