Re: Kumihimo
Joellen (my sis' name by the way), you got it right on the head! The turquoise one I did had eyelash yarn in it. that's what made it fuzzy. There are actually several different types, standard eyelash, and some interesting thread that looked like a giant strand of fake eyelashes. And then there were some wide flat strands of ribbon like cords. All of that mixed together just comes out so interesting even though it is a basic braid.

Re: Kumihimo
Thanks Everyone. I love what everyone is doing. Just not enough time to do it all, so I live vicariously through you all!
Just to clarify, so no one thought I was lifting and stealing.......I did those instructions myself. I'm going to do this with my students in the fall, so I'm doing lesson plans already. (I know........take a break)
Anyway, now I have a favor...........
I want to put something on the ivory hairy one, with the cherrio beads as a focal. I just bid on this, so take a look and tell me what you think>
Pendant
I was also thinking some big Karen Thai Silver Pendant, but I can't make up my mind.
Someone help me? Anyone have a large silver Karen Thai laying around they want to sell?
Chris

Re: Kumihimo
Yay!!!! I did my first rope!!! I did my first rope!!! I'm so happy and what fun! I think it will be relaxing now that I know how. I have a beautiful long purple rope that I can get three necklaces out of. Well its 1:30 am and I am heading to bed, will take picture later. Great pendant Chris, good luck with your bidding. I've purchased from them, they are nice to deal with.

Re: Kumihimo
Chris, I too love that pendant and think it would look wonderful. Anyway you could merge/alter the two photos and give yourself a quick look? Might be a neat way to view them together before purchase. Even if you just cut them out of printed paper and placed them together...
Gladys, that's wonderful. How long did it end up? And which fiber kit did you use (or was it all your own yarns/fibers)? Can't wait to see the photos.
I made a new one, in greens, that I really need to photograph. Maybe I'll get to sharing that one today.

Re: Kumihimo
Thanks again you guys! Only an hour to go on that one, so I hope I get it.
Maggie, I am still making dancers. Karen is coming up today but if I get a chance, I'll get some pictures taken and let you know when they are posted. I haven't had time to put any new ones up on my website. I opened an Etsy shop myself, and was thinking of putting some up there too.
Get those photos taken Gladys so we can see your stuff!
Anyway, need to get around and do something productive.
Chris

Thanks so much for sharing this! I saw some really beautiful eyelash-type materials on clearance (1/2 off) at my local Michael's store yesterday, and I'll have to go back and pick some up.

Re: Kumihimo
Oops, I should have asked this in my last post: I couldn't find any books on kumihimo locally, and I'm wondering if there are important tips or other interesting things in the book that was recommended that'd make it worth ordering it in addition to using the online instructions linked in this thread?

Hey guys, Nancy's work is featured on Bead Arts today! I know you've seen most of it, but you can go over there and leave a nice comment if you want

Re: Kumihimo
Gladys, we are anxiously awaiting photos of your first rope!
I finished one this week. I haven't put anything on it, but have some ideas. I also took a couple closeups, one of the rope, and one of the threads so you can see what went in to it.
The fiber kit I used for this one is from EK Success from www.crafterstoybox.com. I gave the full link earlier. The color palate is called Vegetation, with one more thread from the Pastel palate (the really light wide green one).

Re: Kumihimo
LizaJayne,
The Purple one from EK Success is the one I used last night, beautiful color and I added some lavender eyelash to it for the extra strand. Its 64" long, so I should get 3 necklaces out of it. I'll loose a little when I put it on the closures.
I finished an Auqa one tonight. I have some purple left and some auqa left and I'm going to add lime green to it and see what I come up with. I also bought the same kit that you have shown above. Sure works up pretty.
Joellen, unless you want to do more fancier weaves, then those are in the book. I just used the instruction that were posted here on this thread. Worked for me! Good luck, its alot of fun!
Hopefully I'll get pictures tomorrow night. My son has this adapter thing that just downloads from any camera unto my computer and I couldn't find it tonight and he isn't home. Funny thing, I have so much yarn and tonight my DH was watching me and I said "see just another way to use up all my yarn that I have on hand". He doesn't know I bought a few of those kits with the 7 different fibers in....hee..hee...hee.

Re: Kumihimo
Gladys, can't wait to see it! Sounds like you are having fun. And 64"! you could make a really cool belt that just ties. and the comment from your DH is classic. It was the same way at my house!

Re: Kumihimo
I use some really cool yarns that have spiky stuff!
The photo is a bracelet with lampwork beads as clasp.
