Siberian Husky
Here's a picture of my husky done in colored pencil. What do you think? Does this look finished or do I have some more work to do on it? Thanks for any comments/suggestions!

I think this is excellent but I'd put just a little contrast where the line of the fur along his nose meets the fur of the neck. It might be there all ready on your painting and the scan just didn't detect it. His eyes are great! I love Huskie's eyes...

Thanks Orchidlover & Moochkiss! I'm glad you think the nose looks wet. I was afraid I didn't make it wet enough. And I see what you mean about adding some contrast where the nose meets the neck. That part is a little too light so I'll definitely add some contrast there.
Thank you both for your comments and your help!

This is GREAT!!!! I especially like how you did the eyes and the fur. How did you render the fur??

Thanks Animal! It's kind of hard to describe how I did the fur, but I'll try. Notice in the longer fur under her neck you'll see clumps of fur? I started there and just kind of drew in clumps of fur in different shapes and sizes in the direction of the fur and then shaded them similar to the colors in her actual fur. Then for the shorter hairs I basically did the same thing, but made much smaller clumps of fur so that they eventually all ran together. Does this make any sense? If not, let me know and I'll try to explain it better.
I'm glad you like it!

This is a wonderful portrait of your Huskie. I really love the eyes. Alot of stroke sint hat fur!
I think that you handle the pencil crayon superbly! I think too that only a bit more difinition separating the snout from the neck would work, or maybe just a tiny bit of detail added to his snout area around the nose. But really, this is so minor and really not needed if you like it the way it is!!!

Thanks Joss! I am going to add some more shadow to separate the snout from the neck. I appreciate your comments.

I think it's really amazing how you did the fur in his ears and his whiskers. TO be able to do something like that really amazes me (and it's been soemthing i've been working on trying to do in pencil, lol) I love your pictures, especially you're dogs.

Ketah,
This is wonderful. I really love how you did the blue eye, fur and nose. Those eyes really conveyed the energetic spark husky's always seem to have.
I'd love to see the piece again after you've made the adjustments to the contrasts on the neck.
Have a great day!

Thanks Axl & Greencook!
Axl, have you tried using a stylus to imprint your whiskers and light furs in the ears? That's what I use to do those. I impress lines in the paper before applying colored pencil. The pencil usually does not go into the impressed lines so when I'm done I still have the white of the paper in those areas to work with.
Greencook, I'm finished with the adjustments, but I need to take another picture of it before I can post the final. It's too cloudy today to get a good picture. I'll have to wait for a nice sunny morning.
Thanks again!

Hi Heather,
Excellent work - you know when you do that extra bit of shading, I don't suppose you would re-post the finished work along with a detailed pic for me, paaallllllllease, I just love detail.

Hi online art, here is the finished piece. It doesn't look like I shaded as much as I did because the picture is a little washed out compared to what it really looks like, but the shading really is there.
And, I wasn't sure how to do a detailed pic, but I hope this is what you meant.

That detail pic is fantastic, I just love to see all those fine details, gives me some idea on how the piece would look in real life. I love everything about this portrait, the eyes are especially captivating.
I guess you showed it to your Husky - what did he think of it?lol.
BTW how big is this piece?
