Scavenger Hunt #38: April 26 - May 4

Welcome to Scavenger Hunt #38: April 26-May 4

If you've done at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one, we'd really appreciate it! You can sign up by posting your name and the current hosting calendar (found on the last post), including the one you will host, to this thread - http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=366347

Here are our rules for this week:

* All items on the list must be sketched from life--not imagination nor photo references
* Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed to by unanimous vote among the participants
* You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count those objects as separate list items, but no single object can count for more than one list item.
* All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you sketch and post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.

Do as many or as few items as you like; you don't have to finish the entire list to participate!

Scavenger Hunt #38 will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.

Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you to do each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are also welcome!

a funnel
barbeque grill
something selected by a friend or relative
a store front you shop at often
something from a previous generation of your family
something from the 60's
an insect
3 different kinds of spoons (counts as three)
inside corner of a drawer
a weed
hand held kitchen untensil you use the least
a steering wheel
an unusual piece of furniture
lawn/yard ornament
a pair of hands
front grill of car
today's mail
pkt of seeds
rake
a skyline
something from your childhood
something bumpy
something with 3 elipses

Challenges:
1. use your left hand only
2. blind contour
3. blue value mass

Have fun!!

Like the left handed challenge, since I am left handed no problem. LOL I guess I need to use right hand only.

Can tell it is spring time and everyone needs to get outside and draw. Raining today, though. Anyway, great list. I missed the last challenge, so I hope to get started early for this one.

Hooray! I'm the first to post a sketch!
1. A store front that I visit often. Okay, it's not really a store front, it's my vegetable shop in the market. I sat in the car and sketched this until I melted (30 mins). It's coloured pencil and biro in my A5 pad
I did another one too ( the elliptical one) but it's too dark to photograph so I'll post it tomorrow

Yayamama, I loved the coloured sketches that you did on black paper in the last hunt. I am dying to try that out. Very inspiring!!

Re: Scavenger Hunt #38: April 26 - May 4

Hi everyone,

I also would like to know what a blue value mass is

Here we go:
1 - skyline - with left hand
2 - funnel - blind contours
3 - rarely used hand-held kitchen appliance
In my 9x12 sketchbook in pen. 5 min each.

Wow - the first two are pretty awful. My left hand is as bad as my right-hand blind

Cheers,

Cairomum, looks like a good place to shop! That's a very good sketch, especially in 30 minutes.

Eyepaint, Don't be so hard on yourself...I dread to think what my left handed sketch will look like! That skyline has character, and the ellipse on the bottom of the funnel is better than most of the ones I draw with the benefit of looking!

Here are my first three, all done with water soluable graphite pencils.
#1 Dessert spoon
#2 Wooden spoon
#3 Slotted spoon

Eeek! there's an angry looking monster on your spoon, Mothsailor!!
Only joking....they are great sketches!
Eyepaint, I like your work...How brave are you to tackle such a complicated skyline with your left hand!! Actually the skyline one left handed would be a lot easier here in the desert, hehehe!!I'm just trying to figure where I will find a rake and a packet of seeds?????

Re: Scavenger Hunt #38: April 26 - May 4

Wow you guys are all up and running. Way to go.

Cairomum that was a lot of detail to get in 30 minutes. Very good job.

Nice, nice job on the spoons Dave. I hate doing spoons. They never look more than flat. And now I have to do 3...Yikes! Azul is trying to pay me back for some of the weird and strange ones I have come up with. LOL

EP nice job on yours. Another thing I don't like is contour. I can never figure out how people can connect their "dots" without looking. A funnel would be hard. Too many elipses. My elipses look bad enough with full attention.

I am supposed to be doing housework. But as you see, I am here instead. Lots more fun. Maybe I can hide the mess.....

Re: Scavenger Hunt #38: April 26 - May 4

ooooooo I see that monster in the spoon too. Good eye Cairomum. I don't have any seed packets either but will find something to sub. I do have a rake even tho I don't use it. Hint: you can rake with a fork and it looks like one. Or you could go to dictionary.com and type in rake. You get more definitions for rake.

Hi all, I'm going to try to do this, since I host the next one, especially. Whew, what a sentence? This is an interesting list. Need to find the pair of hands.....and seed packet. Hmmm.

Cairomum, that is a great vegetable shop. Reminds me of when we lived in South America. We have a small market here on Saturdays with home grown stuff, but usually only about six vendors. Your interior shading and hatching are very good.

Eyepaint, looks like you tackled the hardest ones first. Nice job. Funnel is so nice. I can sketch any appliance in the kitchen, I hardly cook anymore.

Dave, nice monster spoon. Good shading on all three, they look like metal wood and plastic to me. Nice lines.

Hope to see you guys tomorrow with a sketch or two.

Jo
