Question too much red?

this is acrylic on canvas, 16, by 20 inches.

it isn't finished, but before i spend any more time on it i would like to know what anyone thinks?

should i paint over it?

is it too weird or generally awfull?

it hasn't photographed very well, the light is too bright.

what ever you say, it won't offend

thanks

Re: too much red?

I think it is great. I would love to see the end result. Maybe you could intensify some of the other colours to create more depth. Please do finish it.

I love the colors in the last shot.
And NOT too much red, I don't think.
Hate trying to photograph stuff,,,,,the colors
just don't seem to do right.

I like this work Whizzy!

Re: too much red?

Something I remembered that helps. If you are planning to leave it for a while turn it around on all its sides. It might "speak' to you differently and your composition might work better for you. Just an idea. It has often worked for me to do this.

Great suggestion - I often walk away from a painting and/or "live with it" for a while. I'll come back with a whole new way of thinking. I like your painting - don't think its too much red.

Re: too much red?

It looks as if right now the red is providing unity for a varied palette (as that slightly angled, rounded rectilinear shape is providing unity for the shapes), so no, not too much red. I can see it's not finished, but it looks promising!

Re: too much red?

You might consider isolating one or a few elements/ideas (of the many that you've started) that you find most interesting and exploring those more. ?

Re: too much red?

Perhaps you should key up the red alittle. As for lighting, have you tried taking the photo out doors in natural light? I always do and it works great.

Re: too much red?

I don't think there is too much red and I love the purples, magenta, yellows against the red, I think this is looking great so far...so many interesting shapes and mysterious things going on in there, love it so far!
