Ruth, this is going to be nice. I like how you paint loose. I am a "too tight" painter. I look at pieces like this and wonder why I can't achieve that look. My next underwater scene I will try to make look more like yours. I like the way the coral is coming along.

Love this, Ruth! reat feeling of depth.
What paints do you like to use? I like both the subtle blends and the coverage you're getting here.

WOW, Ruth, this is beautiful. I'm with Sue. I paint too "tight". I love the softness of this. Great job.

Re: under the sea mural in child's room
Thank you all for your comments! I just use regular acrylic paints.
Here's today's progress. Still more to do on this section...

Re: under the sea mural in child's room
Ruth, that first pic of today's work... those fish look so real!! They all do, but those just knock my socks off! I also really love the seaweed border up top, especially the one that looks ribbon like, twisted... wow.
Did you use a sponge on the background coral by any chance? I just used one on my trees today and I just love the way it worked for that, it looks similar to what you have done here, I was just curious.

Ruth- this is beautiful! The colors are so tranquil. The second to last picture with the school of orange fish is painted masterfully. The depth that you have achieved is brilliant!

Re: under the sea mural in child's room
I really like this Ruth. Very beautiful and fascinating. You commented that you just use regular acrylics. Do you pretty much use them straight out of the container? Your colors are very bright and clean. The greens and blues look very underwaterish. The chair rail gives the look of framing around a large acquarium. I bet you and the other muralists sleep well at night. You work so hard and most likely feel so much accomplishment at the end of the day. This forum exhibits tremendous talent, more talent I think than many of the other forums, but please don't tell them I said so.

Ruth, you really do achieve the "underwater" feel. I am watching and learning. Thanks for the WIP.

Re: under the sea mural in child's room
It just came to me why I like this forum so much. The art created here like this beautiful underwater mural and the other paintings by the very talented artists seem to have one goal. “To create beauty, peace, love and wellness.
As I look through these DA threads I get the same feelings I got when I lived in NYC on a cold winter morning walking down the steps to an antique shop. A little bell would sound as I opened the door. The smell of incense and the sound of classical (new age) music filled my senses. It was warm and I was surrounded by beautiful treasures…I wanted to stay there forever.....Thanx…..windsong
