Place de Seville

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Place de Seville
Year Created: 2007
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Wood
Dimension: 16x20
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
It's been a long time since my last post. Here is one of the four last paintings I've done. It is based on a photo taken in Sevilla, Spain, a couple of years ago.

I use to paint only with knives. I made an exception here: the figures were started with a brush and then, I add a few strokes of knife.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Anything. Still learning.

What do you think of the blue wall (not sure ...).

The light rays were added at the last minute as an advice from my teacher; does it works?

The trees are maybe too evenly placed on the picture.

Anything else?

Re: Place de Seville

I think the blue wall works as do the light rays.I like the lights on the figures and tree trunks I would like to see a little more in the greenery, which seems a little uniform maybe some bluegreen in there would help. The girls hair, edges a little soft compared to the rest of the piece seems out of place.Hope this doesn't sound too critical it is really nice especially if you break up that green.

Re: Place de Seville

Yes, I think the trees are too evenly spaced and I don't mind the blue wall at all but the light shafts are a bit too obvious and evenly spaced.

I think this needs a bit more structure. The girl looks far too tall relative to the fellow sitting on the wall and it's distorting the perspective. The elipse of the 'fountain' could use some work, and giving the water (if that's water) more settled color would also improve this.

As the sun is coming from the right, perhaps placing some brighter spots of sunlight on the wall would relieve the darkness...also the leaves toward the sun would be lighter while the leaves on the trees 'around the corner' would be a bit darker.

I think you need to chop down a tree or two to give some space to this piece. Also the lines of the fountain has to be fixed - here's a very rough idea:

The shadows of the trees are not gray - they would reflect the surrounding colors. I like the filtered light but it has to be more diffuse.

Re: Place de Seville

Good to see you back Daniel.

I love your figures. Knowing you like the knife, this is really good.

Keep up the good work.
