Adding Color

This is my first post on the Portraiture forum. Painting is something new to me and I have been painting about a month now. I have mostly been painting with oil, and have tried out acrylic.

Over the weekend a friend of mine sent me a picture of a Victorian Lady and I decided to paint it and add some color.

Let me know what you think of it so far. I still need to do some work on the ear and hair, add the highlights and curls.

Thought I would add the source picture for this painting.

I'm sorry no one answered your first post until now

If it's not too late:
Your Off to a good start. While adding highlights, look at also adding shadows and using more vibrant colors.

Deepen/Brighten up the yellow to make it more flare which is what I get from looking at the black and white.

The eyebrow looks highly raised compared to the black & white, was that intentional?

Nice work on the hat, I would punch up the yellow on that as well, but your roses look dandy.

I did add in the curls and highlights but I didn't like that so I smoothed it down to subtle highlights with out the curls, and the nape of the neck so it didn't look so flat I trimmed in and added whisps.

Initially the eyebrow was not as arched, but with the eye placement it just didn't look right so I added the arch to it.
