First post, but not my last!!!!!!!!

Hi, this is my first post in the new gallery, I see lots of familiar faces so that is a comfort. I adore watercolour but I also like to experiment and generally play around, I feel we all have a lot to learn from doing this.

My first is a scene that is currently in the WC gallery, probably on page 3 by now!!!!! it is a line and wash of Meolfre, Anglesey. I loved this little scene so much that I decided to re do using Watercolour and soft pastel. Although I didn't achieve what I st out to achieve I am very interested in this working method and plan to return to it.

The second is a scene from Red Wharf Bay, Anglesey {again} I used watercolour on a pastel paper that I had previously stretched As the paper was not white I used a white gouache for the highlights. I really enjoyed working on this surface although it did feel strange as the paint reacted differently, I feel that this painting does not look like anything I would normally produce, I like that!!!!

C and C is always welcome.

Lovely texture on the first one Joanne. Really have to be on our toes now not to miss some of the wonderful work being produced that is not entirely Watercolour.

These are both wonderful - but I really love the first one. The pastel adds an excitement to the painting that I really like.

They are both exquisite! But I am hooked on the boats! Great job and good to see you here! I think the Watercolor Gallery Plus is going to be a big success!

Joanne, The first one came out simply wonderful this way. I think the pastels give it a looseness and softness. The original was beautiful too!
I like the second one too, but it seems to be missing some of your special colors. I've never painted on paper other than watercolor paper. I'll have to try some of the papers that I've accumulated from different projects. It's good to see you in this gallery too.

Re: First post, but not my last!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more Terry, I was a bit sceptical when the new gallery appeared but I think it will be as popular as the old one.

Uschi, a girl after my own heart, why rely on old predictable methods when you can have fun experimenting and trying new things.

Michelle, although I wasn't happy with the end result of the Moelfre painting I like the technique and am sure I will want to use it again.

Lightfast, you are VERY kind, thanks for your encouragement

Yes Karen I agree that this gallery is going to be a hit and predict that we will se some spectacular work here. Thanks for your feedback, I also prefer the second boat painting, probably because it looks like someone else did it.: Thanks for looking.

Joanne,

They are both excellent. I think they both look like your work, except the boats lack any reds. Watercolor and pastels are made for each other. The pastel touches are just perfect to beef up a pale watercolor.

Re: First post, but not my last!!!!!!!!

Outstanding work--both of them! I absolutely LOVE the first one--very exciting--those touches of pastel are great! I also remember the first one posted and they're both gorgeous!

I really like the boat painting alot--wish I could do trees like that! I always seem to get too detailed with mine. I keep looking for a hint of drama within this tho (as suggested before--maybe a touch of red somewhere...).

Hi Joanne, Really like the soft pastel work on the Meolfre, would like to see this in the flesh.

Red Wharf Bay is a lovely painting but hope you don't mind me saying the scan does not do it justice as it looks even better IRL.
