Is the law the same?

I have really enjoyed reading all the stuff in this forum but it is all - as far as i can see - about American law. now i know most of the people on wet canvas are from the States but there are some from other countries too. I understand that maybe not all countries can be covered of course but for my self and the other Brits interested does anyone know about the issues raised in this forum in relation to British law or do the answers here apply to us too? I have learned a lot but it will all be to no avail if the American laws don't apply here so, i hope you don't mind me asking. take care and see you soon.

Hails from United Kingdom
I think most are pretty similar. The ideas of work harming the public (as in pixelscapes thread) is applicable here - which is why galleries and stuff have 3rd party liability insurance. I have it as well through my gold membership with the SAA (www.saa.co.uk) for my open studios and any demos I do.

Copyright law is also the same because both the UK and US are members of the Berne Copyright Convention. There may be slight differences but they'd probably be minor and related to the fact that the US joined the agreement later. Most of the copyright discussions here are relevent for us in the UK too.

Tina.

You might also want to check out the business section of the [a-n] Artist Information Company website.

Absolutely! I second that - [a-n] has some of the best resources around. Most libraries have the magazine too, which isn't as in-depth as the website but has a great section every month on opportunities for shows.
