I apologise - Yet more Sargent.

I really cannot get enough of this mans work. This was a rainy fridays nights study. Done whilst exhausted after finally getting my plein air setup to work in the rain. Well, mostly. If I had something to hold a brolly for me, it would save the muscles in my arm!

Anyway, this was done with the dark background in mind. For some reason I have always had a problem with black/dark vignettes, so who better to study from to improve?

(Note to self, I know he used black in his palette, but I dont, and thus this did a good job of depleting my ultramarine/burnt sienna/aliz.crimson!)

Wonderful. You certainly captured many elements the master's work.

This one is easy to defend. It's motivating and very appealing. -Harry

not wanting to downgrade your AMAZING painting; but this reminds me of how artists are doing comic books now by making each panel almost like a mini-painting with bright sharp highlights...

Excellent portrait though, VERY impressive!

Re: I apologise - Yet more Sargent.

to me the unfinished white peripheral parts conflict with the more significant parts of the portrait...
