Great Aunt Esther's teapot - WIP

This silver teapot belonged to my great, great, great Aunt Esther (who lived to be 96 years old!) and my grandmother gave it to me. Always thought it would make a great painting so now I'm gonna give it a shot. After all, the new year does inspire trying new things. This is my first for 2007 and hoping it will teach me a lot. My life is gonna be nuts for the next 4-1/2 months...planning a wedding, moving into a new house and trying to sell my place. I should be doing some more packing but I was seriously wiggin' to do some painting, and well...I couldn't stand it anymore. The pastels won!

I'm excited to try this but really unsure about how to go about the reflections and something that is so "gray" in color. I've put in a touch of blue so far to try...and the tea cup, that's really gonna scare me. It's as monochromatic as the teapot but much more subtle.

C/C more than welcome. I need help on this one!

Hope all had a great new year,
Ronda

Annie-Maree, thanks. I am a sentimental old fool for things that are passed down. I also have a cameo that I think I am 5th generation to possess. May have to figure a way to paint that one next! Painting makes me feel so euphoric that I don't want to stop...I wonder how in the world I'm going to get my wedding planned on time. I get too easily distracted by the dust! haha.

This is absolutely beautiful! The only thing I immediately noticed was that the handle side of the cover seems wider than the spout side of the cover.... maybe it's an optical illusion... I can't really tell but when I hold a ruler up to it ... it still seems a tiny bit larger on the handle side. It is totally beautiful and the metal is perfect!!!! Donna

Re: Great Aunt Esther's teapot - WIP

Piper, Violet, Mary Brigid, Cravia and Karen. Thanks a bunch! I was nervous starting this one. Funny how once you get started though, you get totally absorbed and the anxiety goes away. At least that's how it works for me.

Mary Brigid - they may yet be some pastel dust on my dress. But like you said...who cares. I'm happy. And the dust is a part of me.

Donna - I see what you are talking about. I'll take a closer look at it when I get home. The actual teapot is already at my fiance's house so I'm using the reference photo I took and the edges are awful dark that I can't see the true edge, so that's highly possible. Thanks for pointing that out. P.S. Love your signature!

Looking good so far!

Reflections would contain some of the color of the cloth it is sitting on and maybe even a touch of the background color. So have you decided what those colors are going to be?

I know you will have fun with this.
