AnnaGayle..some more
Some more progress...

Detail
This is a poor representation. I feel this young lady has nice hands. They were a joy to depict.

This gets more and more beautiful every time you show it. The lighting is wonderful!

Re: AnnaGayle..some more
Thanks Anita...
I will have to put in some sky and clouds to bring out the left side of her face though.

DCamp....just exquisite.
It's beautiful just as it is. I like guessing what she's sitting on and leaning against. It showcases her beauty.
Very nice!

Re: AnnaGayle..almost there
Thanks Cindy...
I didn't like the way the value of the rock face was taking away from the appearance of her hands so I decided to place a light value shaw or small blanket over the rock to contrast her hands. Thank God for the electric eraser I used here. I know I'm not saying anything new to veterans of graphite but to the neophytes I say...be committed to what you utilize the stump for when rubbing the graphite into the crevices of the paper. It doesn't erase very well. I'm thankful that I'm using bristol for this drawing. It really takes the abuse well. I had to actually use an ink eraser in this machine to get back close to the white of the paper.
I rounded the top of the rock to hopefully depict her right arm a little more accurately and I dropped and rounded her right elbow slightly. I silhouetted the leaves not getting hung up on any detail because this is a study and the painting will depict an early evening sky.
I just started the draping shaw today. This piece is almost there.

Re: AnnaGayle..some more
Thanks Anita...if this and the resulting oil painting come out like I hope...I'll owe it to her wonderful look. I definitely want to pursue more work like this!

This is beautiful! It is a well balanced composition of a beautiful woman.
I for one am enjoying all the time you spent on the hair and that braid not to mention on her face and hands. Thanks!

Re: AnnaGayle..maybe
I wanted to make a couple of changes to what was suggested in the portraiture forum but I ran into a few problems. One, I forgot that I had sprayed a healthy coating of fixative over the leaves before I wanted to go back and erase and redo a little. I used the electric eraser again but switched to a softer eraser and even tried a pearl eraser but with little success in fading or blurring the contrast and detail.
No matter how hard I tried, short of tearing or roughing up the bristol surface, I couldn't reduce the value anymore than seen here.
I did attempt to merge the edge of her right shoulder with the background leaves so it wouldn't look so outlined or "cut out". Also, I wanted to darken the shawl a little under her right elbow and darken the whole thing down in the lower left corner but found the erasing I did initially in this area left the surface roughed up enough that the fibers of the paper were catching annoying darker specks of graphite which I detested! I decided to leave it alone. I did add a little hint of darker value to the background so that her face would step out a little. I was pretty conservative with the contrast as seen here. I may add a little more darkness to the upper right corner. I decided to not get elaborate with any sky or cloud detail in this study...maybe in the painting. I don't know...I'm almost tempted to call this work finished.

Thanks Anita...
I may let the young lady decide if I'm finished or not.
