Pinhole Photograph

Hey everyone,

This is one of my pinhole photographs. The camera is made from a Quaker Oatmeal box (which gives it the curved effect). The aperture (the hole) is made into an Arizona Ice Tea can. The neg. is 5x7 and you must use contact printing. All I do is put the neg. on top of an undeveloped piece of paper, put a sheet of glass over it and shine a 15wat bulb over it for about 4 seconds. All the darkroom work is done in my bathroom.
This is a portrait of myself sitting on my doorstep.

This be my last post for a while as I am heading for Nepal in about three days. My good friend who just turned thirty lives up there for 3 to 4 months a year. His parents are going to go visit him and they asked me to tag along. We will be visiting Katmandhu, as well as Lukla, the first base cap.
We will stay with Nepali friends in there huts, visit a friend who is a monk, and moving far away from the tourist experience. This will be spiritual journey for myself as well as a chance to take photos of something other my my back yard!

I wish you happy holidays and a very happy new year!
(oh yes, C&C please!)

Colin

Re: Pinhole Photograph

Well done Colin! Back to the roots of photography. Not many of us do that anymore...blame it on digital!

I like the perspective of this shot. Placing yourself in the center where there is less distortion was a good idea! What was your exposure time for the film? You were pretty still...no ghosts!

Have a safe trip...it sounds great!

Terrific shot Colin, your work always reminds me how exciting film and darkroom work can be...almost makes me want to dust off that old enlarger and black out the bathroom windows again!
Excellent composition

Have a safe and wonderful trip to Nepal

Re: Pinhole Photograph

First, let me thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.

Rich- LOL, yah I'm as big a purist as you can get. I love using my hands instead of a mouse!
This was an exposure of about 35 seconds. Yes, I did do a pretty good job of being still!

Carol- I hope that someday you DO go back to work in the darkroom. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing a photograph that is made purely by me.

I look forward to flooding up the fourm

Peace,
Colin
