Tabby Cat WIP and fur direction demo

I've just worked this one up as a big demo/tutorial for my blog and thought it might be helpful to you guys here as well. Dee (Stormgirl) asked for a demo on the direction cats hair grows on their face and so I've done this one for that reason. Plus it's a general work in progress as well

It's 8x10 on drafting film, the ref photo is by Cravia in the RIL, thankyou! I chose a tabby cat because, if you're wanting to see the hair growth patterns in a cat, you can't beat a tabby!

Anyways, I won't say a lot, just show you the photo's because it's fairly self evident what's going on. There's more detail in my blog if you're that keen

Re: Tabby Cat WIP and fur direction demo

OK, I am earmarking this tutorial, Wendy, since I want to do two kitties, one, my Siddhartha, whose pic is in the IRL, and one of my Silky, who crossed over a couple of years ago. You are a doll for doing this!!!!! Don't have time until after Christmas, shouldn't even be lollygagging around here right now, I have much to do! Probably won't get it all done at this rate . . . . . . .

Thanks Melissa...you know, I rather like jewels too...mmmm shiny

Cat, I hope it helps! :d

LOL Suzi, I feel the same way. I can't believe how much I have to do as well, it seems kind of impossible to get everything done with only a week left to go! Hard to believe this years gone so fast!!!

Re: Tabby Cat WIP and fur direction demo

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is exactly what I needed, and now I have no excuse to not do my own cat... Except for the fact she moves every time I take a photo so I have nothing that is clear

Ranking this one for future use!

Re: Tabby Cat WIP and fur direction demo

Wendy,

Anothr stunning peice!!!!!!georgeous eyes!!! It amazes me how well you get the reflections and depth. Even seeing it, I still can't beleive it.

And YES!!!!!THANK YOU so much for sharing your talent!!!For those of us who learn better by example step, by step(ahem ), it's fanstic! I love the way, that by your technique, you can do the steps, glance away and when you return, voila', it's done!!! Just joking!!!Got another bob cat I'm doing, with more than the eyes, and hiding it so hubby doesn't grab it before I'm done.(he grabbed the eyes I did last time)This will really help with the color layering. Thanks!(wish there were more words in my vocabulary than to just keep saying thanks....but I am really thankful!

It's amazing how quickly you get these done, and so beautiful! Great tlent, and keep sharing, love it!!
I hope you're selling these on e-bay or some gallery, so you may get more supplies and share more of your talent.

Re: Tabby Cat WIP and fur direction demo

"WOW" Wendy, thanks so much I attempted a kitten "Tiggy" with no idea of how to go about it (still not finished ). Now I have a much better idea, so I'll have to try it again after new year. This demo is greatly appreciated, and not just by me

I've rated this thread and hope others do too

Re: Tabby Cat WIP and fur direction demo

hehe Dee, I'm glad it helps...now all you need is to follow the patterns and it doesn't matter if your cat sits still LOL

Thanks Ken! I think it took about 3 hours all up, maybe a little longer since I stopped for photo's and all

LOL Cindy, you'll need to leave mouse traps on your paintings to protect them from the hubby! hehe I'm glad you enjoyed this

Hahahaha Chisaii! Darn those stray hairs! heheh Where on earth do you get those cute little emoticons, he's so cute LOL

I'm glad it helps Janby! thankyOU
