Female Cardinal

This is a female Cardinal all puffed in the cold. It's 9"x12" on Clayboard Black. I intend to colorize it but thought I'd post it as is since it's the first time I've used the good scratchboard. The clayboard is deffinately more fun to work on and it allowed much better detail than the scratchpaper I was using. I had a hard time putting it down. I think I'm hooked.

This works well in both color and B & W. Beautiful bird. Where did you get the image?

Re: Female Cardinal

Thankyou Bertoni, I really do appreciate the kind comments. Using the good board really makes a big different.

Thankyou Diana, I appreciate the encouragement I got with my other attempts that I posted so I had to try the clayboard. Like you said it is a lot easier and much more fun. I am though really surprised at how the picture came out. Much better than I expected because of the board.
*The image is my own. I took it in my backyard the day before yesterday after the big snow, 14 1/2", we got. I take a lot of bad ones to get one good one.

Re: Female Cardinal

You have done a wonderful rendition here, and how satisfying when it's from your own photo. I love it all puffed out to keep warm. Good composition as well.

Thankyou TJ, I work mostly from my own photos. It's handier for me. I take a bunch of pictures to get one good pose.

Re: Female Cardinal

You're right, I found it very hard to stop and put the clayboard down. It was such a pleasure to scratch on. I was also amazed at the detail it would hold. Wish I had tried it a long time ago. Thanks again for checking out my picture and the nice comment.
