I am truly honored

Hi everyone, I have just been itching to post and have been shying away from it. I just can't hold back any longer. I have just got to share my excitement!!! I just started painting with pastels about 3 months ago when my sister came for a visit and we went on a couple of plein air excursions. I was so thrilled with my first plein air that I entered it into the "56th Annual Nevada Days Art Exhibit" in Carson City. I received a lot of help from the gallery director prior, in matting the piece. Terrific lady. I even joined the Artists Association! Anyway, the show was juried and somehow I received an Honorable Mention. Knocked my socks off!!! I don't have great pictures, and I don't have a camera. My sister took some pictures and sent them in an email to me. So check it out! This my second pastel, plein air, 9x12 done on Wallis using my sister's Unisons, Ludwigs, Rembrandts. This is a raw version of it prior to touch up. I couldn't wait to see it in the frame. C and C welcome. Generous sister HUH? Can you believe she let me use a piece of Wallis on my second endeavor????
I LOVE PASTELS,
Carol

Re: I am truely honored

Hi again, Carol! I really like your painting: the colors remind me of some of the Western artists of the 30s and 40s. Very nice light quality to this!

What a nice and supportive sister you have! Glad you are joining us - looks like you are going to need to get a digital camera ASAP! I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your paintings!

Re: I am truely honored

This is a great picture. BUT, if your sister really loved you, she wouldn't have made you wait until the second painting for the Wallis paper.

Keep up the good work and continue to grow as an artist.

John

Congratulations - and it's evident why you received the award. You must keep working, painting pastels is obviously in your blood - although some of it will go up your nose!!

Re: I am truely honored

Hi Carol, welcome!

Ok, let me get this right.....You just started pasteling 3 months ago, you went plein airing, you used Wallis paper, you painted with Unisons, Ludwigs, Rembrandts, you entered a juried show and were accepted AND received the Honorable Mention award, you conversed with a gallery director on matting, etc., you joined an artist association.......whew!!! Yahoo for you!! You have hit the ground running and you're well on your way to soul satisfying creativity. Congratulations to you on such positive events and your soaring confidence with pastels! I am inspired by your whirlwind of activity and your contagious enthusiasm!

Look what we can do if we only try with the time we have to create!
Cindy

Oops, Carol....
Your painting is really lovely, I meant to say that foremost. I love the southwest dearly and I love seeing the little "scrubbies" throughout this on the hills. Nice!

Re: I am truely honored

Your greetings are all well received! I thank all of you for dropping by..and for all of the encouraging comments. Yes this is a great site for learning and sharing. As far as getting a digi cam, well that is on hold, I n e e d m o r e p a s t e l s ! !. Is it possible to ever have enough????
Cindy, someone needs to develop a reality show for pastelists, so they can swap lives for a month, for I would love to live in the north east and capture your fall in pastels, or even with you Mary and Maddy with your quaint country side steeped in history, I haven't been to Europe...yet. They always say the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, but I am learning all you have to do is look out your back door!
